Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan that pairs stylish exterior design with a roomy cabin and excellent fuel economy. It also brings impressive standard safety features and driver-assistance technology, along with top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty, all at a bargain price. This is a great car, with an excellent warranty and packed with features. It is also great on gas and we couldnt be happier with this car. It is used as a commuter car and so far we have no complaints. It gives a great ride and the lane assist feature is something!! Buy it!!

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
You get a compact sedan that is positioned as a value-focused choice with stylish design, a roomy cabin, excellent fuel economy, and strong standard safety and technology. Owners repeatedly praise its excellent value, impressive warranty, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design.
The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine, uncomfortable seats, and a noisy demeanour. That said, the Elantra’s appeal is strongest if you want a well-equipped small sedan without paying a premium, and the market shows 30.6% of listings are good or great deals.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable over time, with praise for its excellent value, impressive warranty, fuel efficiency, safety features, and overall satisfaction. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing it as a bargain-priced compact sedan with top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty.
Hyundai’s warranty coverage adds another ownership advantage, and the model’s value-oriented positioning helps reduce the risk of regret for used buyers who want a practical daily driver. For long-term ownership, the biggest watch-out is whether the car’s comfort and refinement trade-offs suit your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Essential is the most basic version, while Preferred, Ultimate, and N Line add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The base trim leaves out some convenience and safety content that appears on higher grades, so you should check whether the features you want are standard or optional.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder is tuned for efficiency rather than punch, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with a more engaging character. The standard car can feel buzzy and short on power during hard acceleration.
- Safety package: Hyundai’s driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, and driver attention alert. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is not available on Essential but is standard on other grades.
- Infotainment: Base models get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Ultimate and N Line move to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, and wireless device charging. With the larger screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired only.
- Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption ranges from 6.7 L/100 km for the 2.0-litre engine to 7.6 L/100 km for the N Line, while the hybrid uses 4.4 L/100 km combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Ultimate, and N Line.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want a strong safety and tech foundation. It gets the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rearview camera, and the standard 2.0-litre engine, but some driver-assistance features are not standard here.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and connectivity without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. It also opens the door to more available safety and tech content, making it the most balanced choice for everyday use.
- Ultimate: Choose this if you want the more premium-feeling Elantra with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging. It suits you best if you care about a more upscale cabin experience.
- N Line: This is the pick if you want the sportiest version in the standard gas lineup, with the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, seven-speed DCT, paddle shifters, sport-tuned suspension, and a multi-link rear suspension. It is the right choice if driving enjoyment matters more than maximum comfort.
Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is not available on Essential but is standard on the other trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 641 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,060 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,060 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,810 CAD.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today but less favourable for a seller trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to stand out.
The good news is that the Elantra’s strong value reputation, broad appeal, and solid owner satisfaction can help support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance. The IIHS gave it top Good ratings in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai’s standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking across the board. On all trims except Essential, you also get forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, driver attention alert, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. One caveat to keep in mind is that lower-level trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while LED-equipped versions were rated Good.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong value, safety, and technology with a redesigned cabin and broad trim choice.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $18,053 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,060 CAD average.
- It delivers a redesigned compact sedan with style, space, and strong owner praise.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $20,877 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,060 CAD average.
- It broadens the lineup with more personality, including efficient hybrid and sporty options.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-round pick if you want a value-rich compact sedan with strong safety and tech. If price is your top priority, the 2021 can save you money; if you want a broader range of personalities, the 2023 is worth a look.
