CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda HR-V
Summary
With 73 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,999 CAD, 24.7% of 2022 Honda HR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda HR-V 4.73 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with subcompact SUV that blends a higher driving position with the feel of a smaller car. It is part of the first generation sold in North America, and its appeal comes from a spacious interior, strong reliability reputation, and the flexible Magic Seat system, which allows the rear seats to fold in multiple ways for different cargo and seating needs. That versatility is a major part of what made the HR-V popular with urban drivers and small families, especially when paired with its reputation for value.
For 2022, the HR-V uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with 141 hp and a CVT automatic transmission tuned more for fuel economy than performance. It is also described as having fuel consumption between 7.6 and 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on model year and equipment. The trade-off is that acceleration is not its strong suit, and early infotainment systems were criticised for being slow and unresponsive, though later models improved that setup. A 2019 refresh brought revised body panels, upgraded LED headlights, a new infotainment system with physical buttons and a volume knob, and standard Honda Sensing safety features, which helps make this model year feel more modern than early examples.
Buyers looking at a 2022 HR-V get a compact SUV with useful cargo flexibility, good ride comfort, and a reputation for dependable ownership. It is not the most powerful choice in its class, and it does not offer a wide range of engine options, but its combination of practicality, efficiency, and everyday usability is exactly what makes it distinctive.

The 2022, Honda HR-V, Sport AWD is a great value. It has a stylish look inside and out. Lots of head and leg room. The seats are comfortable and great for taking that long road trip or commute to work. I love the sound system features. All around a fun car to drive, no matter where youre going.

Great size, good value and great price for the age and mileage of the car. The only things missing are a CD player (sad reality of today’s new cars), automatic lift gate, and rear passenger center arm rest. All minor things, but features I personally would like.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.83% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,555 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda HR-V's resale value?
The current average of $24,426 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,088 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy at the current average, your resale position may be steadier than if you pay near the top of the range. The HR-V’s practical appeal and broad usefulness should help support demand, especially among shoppers who value versatility over performance.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $27,864 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,426 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with a more modern look and a stronger feature set.
The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and are comfortable with its older design and modest performance. Consider the 2023 if you want the newer body style and are willing to pay more for a more modern feel. If price matters most, the 2022 is the smarter path; if you want the newer generation, the 2023 is the better alternative.
