Is the 2025 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2025 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with subcompact SUV that leans into everyday usefulness rather than flash. It offers a higher driving position and a large cargo area, while still feeling more like a small car from the driver’s seat. Honda’s strong reputation for reliability is another major part of its appeal, and the HR-V has long been aimed at buyers who want efficiency, practicality, and value in one package.

For 2025, the HR-V benefits from the second-generation redesign’s more refined styling, larger body, and improved handling. It uses a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are both available, and the model includes hill descent control as standard. The cabin also gets an updated infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus more advanced safety features grouped under Honda Sensing, while 10 airbags are standard across the range.

There are still some compromises to keep in mind. The engine is described as less powerful than some rivals and not especially fuel efficient, and it needs to be worked hard at higher speeds, especially with passengers on board. Even so, the 2025 Honda HR-V remains appealing because it combines a comfortable ride, a versatile interior, and a strong overall sense of practicality in a compact, affordable package.

34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the engine may feel strained when you regularly carry passengers or drive at higher speeds.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on the better-priced listings.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 333 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,917 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $31,933 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,393 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favour, which can make the HR-V easier to purchase now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, it also means you may face more competition from similarly priced listings if you decide to trade in or sell later. If the market stays steady, holding a clean, well-maintained example should still help you protect value better than a less cared-for one.

Should I buy a 2025 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.

Consider the 2026 if:

• At $35,000 CAD, the 2026 costs more than the current year's $31,933 CAD average.
• It adds a larger touchscreen with faster response times.

The bottom line: The 2025 is the better value if you want the lower average price and more room to negotiate. If you are price-sensitive, the 2025 is the primary path to consider; if you want the newer refresh and can pay more, the 2026 is the secondary option.
