CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda HR-V
Summary
With 19 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,995 CAD, 15.8% of 2022 Honda HR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda HR-V 4.73 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with subcompact SUV that blends a higher driving position with the feel of a smaller car. It is part of the first generation sold in North America, and its appeal comes from a spacious interior, strong reliability reputation, and the flexible Magic Seat system, which allows the rear seats to fold in multiple ways for different cargo and seating needs. That versatility is a major part of what made the HR-V popular with urban drivers and small families, especially when paired with its reputation for value.
For 2022, the HR-V uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with 141 hp and a CVT automatic transmission tuned more for fuel economy than performance. It is also described as having fuel consumption between 7.6 and 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on model year and equipment. The trade-off is that acceleration is not its strong suit, and early infotainment systems were criticised for being slow and unresponsive, though later models improved that setup. A 2019 refresh brought revised body panels, upgraded LED headlights, a new infotainment system with physical buttons and a volume knob, and standard Honda Sensing safety features, which helps make this model year feel more modern than early examples.
Buyers looking at a 2022 HR-V get a compact SUV with useful cargo flexibility, good ride comfort, and a reputation for dependable ownership. It is not the most powerful choice in its class, and it does not offer a wide range of engine options, but its combination of practicality, efficiency, and everyday usability is exactly what makes it distinctive.

The 2022, Honda HR-V, Sport AWD is a great value. It has a stylish look inside and out. Lots of head and leg room. The seats are comfortable and great for taking that long road trip or commute to work. I love the sound system features. All around a fun car to drive, no matter where youre going.

Great size, good value and great price for the age and mileage of the car. The only things missing are a CD player (sad reality of today’s new cars), automatic lift gate, and rear passenger center arm rest. All minor things, but features I personally would like.

How much does the 2022 Honda HR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,990 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,548 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $27,305 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,126 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.56% |
Prices have softened 11.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 187 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the market.
Is the 2022 Honda HR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Honda HR-V earns a 4.73/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly praise its spacious interior, comfortable seating, and overall value, and many also like the fun driving experience and solid sound system. It fits especially well if you want a practical subcompact SUV with a higher driving position, flexible cargo space, and an easygoing daily-driving feel. With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Honda HR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers highlighting the HR-V’s long-term usefulness and value. Honda’s reputation for reliability lines up with that feedback, especially for buyers who want a vehicle they can count on for everyday use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is more about modest performance and feature age than major reliability concerns.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda HR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 187 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.56% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,548 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda HR-V's resale value?
The current average of $23,990 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,126 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the HR-V has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if market conditions stay similar. The current price range still shows healthy demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean histories. Because the model has a strong reputation for practicality and owner satisfaction, it should continue to attract shoppers who value usefulness over flash.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $27,939 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,990 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with a more modern platform and updated styling.
The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and a proven, practical package. If you’re price-sensitive, it makes the most sense to focus on the 2022; if you want the newer redesign and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is the stronger upgrade path.
