What should I look for when buying a used Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Honda Sensing, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless smartphone charger.
• Fuel efficiency: official Natural Resources Canada ratings say the HR-V will burn 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined city and highway driving with front-wheel drive (FWD) or 8.7 L/100 km combined with AWD.

Which Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim brings the HR-V’s core practicality and is the least expensive way into the lineup; adding AWD costs extra here.
• Sport: This trim adds AWD as standard, plus a 17-inch grey wheel design and Boost Blue paint availability.
• EX-L: The best-value trim for shoppers who want the most upscale cabin, with genuine leather, perforated surfaces, Z-pattern stitching, front footwell lighting, silver steering wheel spokes, and the most complete equipment set.

What Honda HR-V do most buyers choose?

The Honda HR-V years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume model years tend to be the most popular used picks because they combine newer features, broader availability, and a strong mix of value and everyday usability. More listings also give you more choice on price, trim, and condition.

What is the Honda HR-V's resale value?

Most Honda HR-V model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more value for your money. The largest drops are in the double digits, while a few years have declined more modestly. That pattern suggests there are opportunities across the lineup, especially if you’re flexible on model year and trim.

The 2017, 2018, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Honda HR-V safe?

• 2026: 6/10
• 2023: 8/10

Honda equips every HR-V with Honda Sensing, a collection of driver assist features.

For the safest used buy, the 2023 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.

Should I buy a used Honda HR-V now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −9.79% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −12.15%.
• Deal availability: The 2026 model has 35.7% good and great deals, and the 2025 model has 31.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $29,660 CAD. The Honda HR-V offers a practical cabin, a comfortable driving position, and the kind of everyday usability that makes it easy to live with.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Honda installs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine under the HR-V’s hood, and it produces 158 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 138 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm.
• Tech: For 2026, Honda increased the standard touchscreen size from 7 to 9 inches and installed a faster processor to make the screen more responsive to inputs.
• Safety: Honda equips every HR-V with Honda Sensing, a collection of driver assist features, and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Starting price: Trim levels for the 2026 Honda HR-V include LX, Sport, and EX-L, and pricing in Canada ranges from $33,446 to $41,846.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
