What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in equipment and refinement. The base LX gets the essentials, while Touring adds the most upscale cabin materials, a larger digital display, and more premium tech.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The turbo engine is the stronger and more satisfying choice if you want more punch.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The car also gets proper blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, with Touring adding rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with volume and tuning knobs, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Touring returned 7.7 L/100 km on a 150-kilometre driving loop, while Natural Resources Canada’s combined estimate is 6.9 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core strengths without the higher price of the upper trims. It suits you best if you want the redesigned Civic experience at the lowest cost.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the top trim’s price jump.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a slightly more expressive feel and the Sport transmission mode, while still keeping the simpler powertrain.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with the turbocharged engine, larger digital display, premium audio, wireless smartphone integration, navigation, and the most upscale cabin presentation.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 849 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,902 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,902 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,522 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. The current trend suggests the Civic is still holding meaningful value, just not at the same level it did a year ago. Strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when you eventually resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The Civic also replaces the old LaneWatch setup with a proper blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert, which is a meaningful improvement for everyday driving. Honda further adds rear-seat reminder functionality and structural upgrades aimed at better collision protection.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign brings major gains in technology, refinement, and overall execution.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,381 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,902 CAD average.
• It remains a proven outgoing generation with broad appeal and a strong reputation.

The bottom line: If you want the more modern Civic with better tech, stronger refinement, and a fresher design, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less and you’re comfortable with the older generation’s trade-offs, the 2021 is the value-oriented alternative.
