Why it stands out
The 2022 Genesis GV80 stands out because it brings a genuinely distinctive take on the luxury midsize SUV formula. Genesis positioned it as a rival to established premium nameplates, but the GV80’s appeal is not just about badge value. Its sleek, rakish body gives it a more elegant profile than many competitors, while the cabin is styled and finished to feel properly upscale. The interior’s minimalist dashboard design, high-quality materials, and details such as the knurled gear selector and rotary infotainment controller help it feel special rather than merely well equipped.
It is also a strong choice for buyers who want luxury features without having to move far up the price ladder. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, a power liftgate, power-folding door mirrors, heated front and second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Safety equipment is similarly generous, with 10 airbags, collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist, and blind-spot assist. In Canada, all-wheel drive has been standard since launch, which adds to its appeal as a year-round family SUV.
There are some trade-offs, though. The GV80’s fuel economy is not a strong point, whichever engine is chosen, and some owners may find the front seats too firm for comfort. The model also does not offer a hybrid or electric option. Even so, the 2022 GV80 remains distinctive because it combines a polished design, a richly appointed interior, and a long list of available technology in a package that feels a little different from the usual luxury SUV choices.

GV80 is the first SUV from Hyundais luxury brand, Genesis. It competes with the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Lexus RX and no argument with that, the vehicle is loaded with safety features and creature comforts. It is quick, quiet, beautifully appointed (Prestige Package) and enjoyable to drive. Ive only had it a week but I love driving it already. Admittedly, the Infotainment takes some getting used to but I expected that.

This vehicle has been great, it is best in class compared to the GLE 43 and the X640i (Prestige 3.5TT) it is nicer with build quality, better for technology, and just better materials, has better acceleration than the GLE 43 , but not the X6, but it far makes up with gas mileage. It is also over $10,000 Cheaper. In my opinion it looks a lot nicer than the both of them, but that is subjective.

The GV80 is an exceptional vehicle of not only engineering and design, but of safety as well. I owned one for two years when unfortunately, another driver inexplicably pulled out in front of my wife causing an intersection collision at 40mph. This happened at 8am. My wife, while startled and shaken, was home reading emails at her desk by 930am. The GV80 performed wonderfully in protecting her. She impacted the side of a Volvo XC60 flipping the Volvo on its side. Needless to say, both cars are total losses but both ladies were ok. I am currently shopping for another GV80.

I test drive the Genesis GV70, the Acura MDX, the Lexus RX350, and decided on the Genesis GV80. First of all the GV80 is a great looking car and looks very different from other Luxury SUV’s on the road. The interior space was ideal for me; a taller and larger man. I found the 3.5t to be ideal for me as it is a 4 wheel drive. And you can really feel the power of the 3.5t compared to the 2.5. The interior is gorgeous, and the safety rating is 10/10.
