Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?

Yes — you rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The Yukon fits buyers who want a full-size SUV with a premium feel, distinctive GMC styling, and a broad trim range that stretches from practical family use to upscale long-distance comfort. For 2022, the standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity add to its appeal as a modern family hauler and long-distance cruiser.

The market also shows 28.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some flexibility if you want to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Yukon’s appeal comes from its upscale positioning, spacious cabin, and available premium features, while the expert assessment highlights strong capability and a well-rounded feature set. Its powertrains use direct injection and cylinder-deactivation technology, and the diesel option adds especially strong range potential for buyers who cover lots of distance.

If you plan to keep one used, the main ownership risk is that a large, feature-rich SUV can be costly to run and maintain compared with smaller alternatives.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium-looking exterior, cloth seats, and standard seating for eight, while the SLT and above move to perforated leather. The AT4 adds unique front styling, a skid plate, and red recovery hooks, while the Denali brings the most upscale presentation, standard second-row captain’s chairs, heated and cooled front seats, and interior designs not offered on other trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel is the efficiency-focused choice, while the 6.2-litre V8 is standard on Denali and available on AT4. All engines use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Every Yukon gets GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist; it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
• Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Google Built-In, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, wireless phone charging on all but the SLE, and an available Wi-Fi hotspot. The standard 12-inch driver information centre and available 15-inch head-up display add to the tech appeal.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada figures put combined fuel consumption at roughly 14 to 15 L/100 km with either V8, while diesel versions average just over 10 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Yukon’s premium look, standard seating for eight, and the core Pro Safety suite. It makes sense if you want the Yukon’s size and presence without chasing luxury extras.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds perforated leather and makes GMC Pro Safety Plus standard. If you want a more upscale daily driver without jumping to the higher-priced specialty trims, this is the one to focus on.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the Yukon’s off-road-oriented styling and hardware, including the skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD. It also brings the 6.2-litre V8 as an available engine and a more rugged personality.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with standard 4WD, the 6.2-litre V8, heated and cooled front seats, standard second-row captain’s chairs, and the most distinctive interior treatment. It suits you if comfort and presentation matter most.

GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 124 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.78% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $61,638 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?

The current average of $63,824 CAD sits slightly below last year's $69,206 CAD.

That softer pricing means future sellers may face a more competitive market than owners did a year ago. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect value, but the current trend suggests you should not expect rapid appreciation. The Yukon’s premium positioning and broad appeal should still support demand, especially for well-equipped trims.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?

The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in front crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side crash protection from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist; it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $54,650 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $63,824 CAD average.
• It brings meaningful gains in space, comfort, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2022 is the better pick thanks to its updated tech and softer pricing. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a smart alternative because it delivers the redesigned Yukon’s core space and comfort advantages for less money.
