Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style and capability with a distinctly premium feel. GMC’s position in General Motors’ lineup helps give it a different character from more mainstream offerings, with the brand’s “Professional Grade” approach bringing premium features, enhanced capability, and unique exterior and interior design.
For 2022, the Yukon gains a standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity, which adds to its appeal as a modern family haulier. It is also offered in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali, giving buyers a broad spread of choices within the same model. The main limitation is simply that, as a full-size SUV, it is aimed at shoppers who want size and presence first and foremost.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

| Average Price a Year Ago | $71,065 CAD |

There are 121 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare trims and prices.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
It fits buyers who want a full-size SUV with a premium feel, strong presence, and modern family-hauling capability. For 2022, the standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity add to its appeal, while the broad trim spread gives you a range of choices within the same model.
The market also shows 26.4% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some flexibility if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brought meaningful gains in passenger space, cargo space, ride quality, and technology, and the available air-ride adaptive suspension adds to everyday comfort. The available diesel engine also brings strong torque and excellent fuel consumption figures, which can be a plus if you plan to tow or cover lots of distance.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a large, feature-rich SUV can be costly to keep in top shape, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the vehicle was used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but the SLT, AT4, and Denali add more upscale equipment and distinct styling. The SLE uses cloth seats, while the other trims get perforated leather. Second-row captain’s chairs are available on the SLT and AT4 and standard on the Denali, and the Denali also gets four interior designs not offered on other trims.
- Powertrain: You can find a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder. Both V8s use direct injection and cylinder deactivation, while the diesel is the efficiency-focused choice and is described as capable of travelling more than 1,000 kilometres on a tank.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE but standard on SLT and above.
- Infotainment: The Yukon uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, Bluetooth, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. AT4 and Denali also get three years of connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada figures put combined fuel consumption at roughly 14 to 15 L/100 km with either V8, while diesel versions average just over 10 L/100 km combined.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Yukon’s premium look and the core full-size SUV experience. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable adding options selectively.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel and unlocks more comfort and safety equipment, including standard GMC Pro Safety Plus.
- AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented styling and hardware, including the unique front design, skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive interior treatment, standard 4WD, heated and cooled front seats, and the most premium presentation overall.
Safety-package note: GMC Pro Safety is standard on every trim, while GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 121 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.29% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $61,602 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $63,041 CAD sits slightly below last year's $71,065 CAD.
That softer pricing means future sellers may face more competition if the market stays well supplied. If you buy at the right price now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later. The Yukon’s premium positioning and broad appeal should still help support demand, especially for well-equipped trims.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash and all other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above.
One caveat is that IIHS has not tested this generation of Yukon, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the NHTSA results when evaluating a used example.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a standard 12-inch driver information centre and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $56,728 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $63,041 CAD average.
- It brings meaningful gains in passenger space, cargo space, and ride quality.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current used Yukon, the 2022 is the stronger all-around choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you can live with a slightly older feature set.
