Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns 4.3/5 from owners and 6.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and smooth ride. It also comes across as a practical, value-focused small SUV with broad appeal, especially for everyday use and for buyers who want a distinctive look without giving up usability.

That said, the Trailblazer’s appeal is strongest when you want a well-rounded small crossover rather than a powerhouse. With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and a smooth ride, while also describing the Trailblazer as a great value in the LT package. That combination suggests a vehicle many owners feel good about living with day to day.

The expert assessment also frames it as a practical, useful small SUV that can be counted on for everyday driving. Chevrolet’s available maintenance and ownership conveniences help, but the Trailblazer’s long-term risk for used buyers is mainly tied to whether you can accept its modest power and avoid overpaying for a loaded example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailblazer comes in LS, LT, Activ, and RS trims. The LT is notable because it uses front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission, while the other trims use all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. The cabin is stylish, but hard plastics are a reminder that higher prices do not bring a luxury feel.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the Trailblazer uses a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine. It feels lively around town, but it is not meant for towing or heavy-duty work.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, plus Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Chevrolet Connected Services capability. Teen Driver technology is standard, and wireless charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD powertrain is rated at 8.4 L/100 km combined, while the FWD setup is rated at 7.6 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, but the Trailblazer’s strongest value tends to come from moving up if you want a better overall ownership experience.
• LT: This is the best-value trim. It is the one to target if you want the Trailblazer’s core strengths without stretching too far on price, and it also brings remote engine start.
• Activ: This trim adds off-road suspension tuning, sport-terrain tires, and a front skid plate, so it suits you if you want the most rugged-looking version.
• RS: This is the sportiest-looking trim, but the expert assessment suggests it can become too expensive once options are added.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up for the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 226 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.67% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,774 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $21,774 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,650 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Trailblazer has softened enough to create better buying opportunities now, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid near the top of the range.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns top crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Every Trailblazer also gets 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, and Teen Driver technology. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a heated steering wheel, new paint colours, and an available dealer-installed trailering package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,332 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,774 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design, strong standard features, and broad trim choice.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,214 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,774 CAD average.
• It adds fresh paint choices and keeps the Trailblazer’s easy-to-use, value-focused formula.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and current market softness, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense only if its newer pricing and updates matter to you.
