Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, fuel efficiency, and spaciousness, and they also highlight the smooth ride and good value. For you, that means this is a practical compact crossover that fits well if you want an easygoing daily driver with useful space and modern convenience features. It is especially appealing if you value comfort and straightforward usability over flashier design or a more premium feel.

The market also shows 33.7% of listings as good or great deals, which points to decent shopping opportunity.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to comfort, fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and a smooth ride as recurring strengths, and those are the kinds of traits that usually support dependable everyday ownership. The review summary also describes it as a good value, which matters if you want a used SUV that feels sensible rather than complicated.

From the expert side, the Equinox is presented as a straightforward, easy-to-live-with compact crossover with a simple powertrain lineup and a practical cabin. Chevy also backs it with a three-year, 60,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 100,000-kilometre powertrain limited warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Equinox is competent rather than class-leading, so condition and maintenance history matter more than chasing a standout ownership story.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RS adds black exterior trim, darkened 19-inch wheels, a black interior with red stitching, and a model-specific shift knob, while the base trims are more restrained and use cloth seats as standard equipment. If you want the best-value blend of personality and equipment, the RS is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Chevy’s Teen Driver system. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch instrument-cluster screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 8.4 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 8.8 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 3 trim levels: LS, LT, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Equinox without chasing extras. It gives you the core comfort and practicality of the model, but it is the least distinctive choice.
• LT: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of equipment and value. It sits above the base model and gives you a more complete everyday package without pushing you into the top-end price range.
• Premier: This is the most upscale choice in the lineup, so it suits you if you want the most premium-feeling Equinox available.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 398 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,594 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $22,594 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,184 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower average price than last year, which can help reduce depreciation pressure in the near term. The Equinox’s broad appeal as a comfortable, practical compact SUV should help it remain saleable, but it is not the kind of model that typically commands a premium just because of name recognition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2022 Equinox received top “Good” scores in most Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but received a “Marginal” rating in the updated side crash test, and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in frontal and side crash tests, plus four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Chevy’s Teen Driver system. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.

The Marginal IIHS side-crash result is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus revised styling and available parking-assist features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,999 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,594 CAD average.
• It gains a little extra power, a more sophisticated braking system, and new paint colours.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and useful updates. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly fresher version, the 2023 is the better pick for buyers who want the incremental improvements and do not mind paying extra. For most shoppers, though, the 2022 is the more compelling used choice.
