How much does the 2022 Buick Encore GX cost?

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — 4.57/5 from owners and 7/10 from experts point to a well-liked small SUV with broad appeal. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the comfort, the advanced technology, and the easy-to-live-with cabin. The Encore GX also fits buyers who want a compact Buick crossover with a premium-leaning feel rather than a major redesign.

That said, some shoppers may still weigh the mixed feedback on the three-cylinder engine and the perception that it is priced above some rivals. Even so, 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to comfort, advanced technology, and a generally dependable ownership experience. The review summary also highlights that many drivers see it as a great compact SUV, with the kind of everyday usability that helps a vehicle feel trouble-free over time.

On the road, the engine is described as surprisingly capable, and the driving experience is generally drama-free. Buick also includes a system override for the stop/start feature, which can make day-to-day use feel less intrusive.

If you want a used small SUV you can count on for regular commuting and family duty, the main long-term risk is more about value and feature satisfaction than outright durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the top trim adds leather upholstery. The cabin is attractive, but the most upscale touches are reserved for higher trims and option packages.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and AWD.
• Safety package: The Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
• Infotainment: An eight-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, Buick Connected Services with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar telematics, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists combined fuel consumption at 8.6 L/100 km. In testing, it averaged 7.4 L/100 km in mostly highway driving.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the Buick badge, standard AWD, and the standard tech suite without stretching for extras.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the range and can add useful equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim. It also supports available navigation.
• Essence: This is the most upscale choice, with leather upholstery standard and the best headlight rating mentioned in the safety content. Choose it if you want the most premium-feeling cabin and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Driver Confidence package is standard, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find reasonable options.

• Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 163 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.75% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,263 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $22,347 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,037 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future buyers but may limit near-term upside for sellers. If you own one now, the current trend means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

The good news is that the Encore GX still has a clear audience: shoppers who want a compact, comfortable crossover with useful tech and a premium badge. That kind of steady demand can help support resale value, even when prices are under pressure.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earned the maximum five stars for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in both frontal and side crash protection and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earned the highest-possible "Good" ratings in all IIHS crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning. Teen Driver technology and a tire-fill alert system are also included.

One caveat to keep in mind is that headlight performance varies by trim: the top Essence trim’s LED headlights were rated Acceptable, while Preferred and Select trims with halogen headlights were rated Marginal.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 is a complete carryover, with only new exterior paint colours added.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,501 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,347 CAD average.
• It adds a new extra-cost Moonstone Gray Metallic paint option.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it delivers the same basic formula at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the cleaner alternative, but the 2022 should be your first stop if price matters most.
