Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Buick Encore GX earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable seating, advanced technology, and overall compact-SUV practicality. The cabin’s comfort and the available 360 camera stand out, and many drivers describe it as a good compact SUV. It also fits well if you want a small crossover with a more upscale feel and easy-to-use tech.

That said, some owners feel it is overpriced, and the three-cylinder engine gets mixed feedback for highway power. Even so, 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a vehicle that many find comfortable, dependable, and easy to live with over time. The user review summary also highlights the Encore GX as a good compact SUV with features people can count on, especially its comfort and technology.

The expert drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the powertrain as surprisingly capable in real-world use, even if it can feel buzzy. Buick also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not outright durability so much as whether the vehicle’s price and feature set still feel worthwhile to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gets cloth seats, while the top Essence trim adds leather upholstery. The available ST appearance package adds body-colour bodyside and rocker mouldings, custom grille and front and rear sport bumpers with red accents, 18-inch wheels, and an ST badge.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the Encore GX uses a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: The standard Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
• Infotainment: You get an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar, and SiriusXM. Navigation is available on Select and Essence trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists combined fuel consumption at 8.6 L/100 km, and the test vehicle averaged 7.4 L/100 km in mostly highway driving.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the model’s comfort, standard tech, and safety basics without paying for extras.
• Select: This mid-level trim is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim. It also unlocks navigation, which helps if you want a more complete tech setup.
• Essence: This is the most upscale version, with leather upholstery and the available LED headlight setup that earns a better IIHS headlight result than the lower trims’ halogen units.

The safety package is standard, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 163 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,138 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $22,195 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,380 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Encore GX may be a more approachable used buy now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less room for appreciation if market conditions stay soft. On the other hand, a lower entry price can help keep the vehicle attractive to value-focused shoppers later on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earns five-star ratings in both frontal and side crash protection, and four stars for rollover resistance from NHTSA. According to IIHS, it earned the highest-possible Good ratings in all of the organisation’s crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning. Teen Driver technology and a tire-fill alert system are also included.

One caveat to keep in mind is that IIHS headlight performance varies by trim: the top Essence trim’s LED headlights rate better than the halogen units on Preferred and Select.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 is a carryover year with only new exterior paint colours, so you’re not missing a major redesign.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,086 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,195 CAD average.
• It adds a new extra-cost Moonstone Gray Metallic paint option.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it delivers the same familiar formula at a lower average price. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2022 also gives you more room to shop for a deal without giving up the core comfort and tech that make the Encore GX appealing.
