The current average of $26,137 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,869 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should stay realistic rather than aggressive. The good news is that a model with broad owner appeal and strong practicality usually keeps demand steady even when prices cool.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,164 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,137 CAD average.
• It adds the Wilderness trim for a more rugged off-road focus.

The bottom line:
The 2021 is the better primary pick if you want strong value, broad owner approval, and a practical used SUV with a softer price point. If you’re willing to spend more for a tougher, more adventurous version, the 2022 is the better secondary path.
