What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRX is the standout trim, with a commanding presence, functional hood scoop, massive grille, fender vents, and a crew cab-only 4x4 layout. The base truck is more conventional, so you should check whether the features you want are included rather than assuming they come standard.
• Powertrain: The TRX uses a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rated at 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It is built for extreme performance, but it also uses a 125-litre fuel tank and requires 91 octane.
• Safety package: The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Some safety and security features cost extra, so verify what is actually fitted.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and over-the-air-style convenience through a highly customizable interface. The screen can be configured as a single-panel or split-screen display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada specs the TRX at 22.4 L/100 km in the city, 16.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 19.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the most affordable path into the 2021 RAM 1500 lineup. It makes sense if you care more about getting into the truck than loading up on luxury or performance extras.
• TRX: This is the clear choice if you want the most distinctive and extreme version of the truck. It brings the supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8, the 12-inch Uconnect display, and the off-road-focused hardware and styling that make this model year special.

The TRX also comes with a safety package note: several advanced driver-assistance features are available, but some are bundled into optional groups rather than standard equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,109 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.22% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,794 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $32,794 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,789 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may need to be more competitive if they want to move quickly. If you plan to sell later, the current trend implies that buyers have more leverage than they did a year ago.

At the same time, the truck’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is built to withstand on- and off-road unpredictability, but crash-test safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA are not yet available.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. A rear backup camera with dynamic guidelines is standard, while other available features include adaptive headlights, hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear park assistance with automatic braking.

You should also note that some of the snazzier safety features cost extra, so it is worth checking the exact package content on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The TRX adds a new high-performance off-road focus that makes this year especially distinctive.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,287 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,794 CAD average.
• It brings back the EcoDiesel option across the lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,294 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,794 CAD average.
• It blends comfort, utility, and technology with broad appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of the Ram 1500, the 2021 is the year to target because of the TRX. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 is the path if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
