What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans everything from work-focused configurations to the TRX, and the biggest equipment gaps show up in cabin materials, cab/bed combinations, and drivetrain choices. The TRX stands apart with its commanding presence, functional hood scoop, massive grille, fender vents, black LED headlamp surrounds, composite fender flares, and premium cabin touches such as black cloth and vinyl with red accents, with leather and suede available.
• Powertrain: The TRX uses a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rated at 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It also brings serious capability, including 594 kg of payload and a maximum towing capacity of 3,674 kg.
• Safety package: The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Other available features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, trailer sway control, and front and rear park assistance with automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The TRX gets a 12-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, AUX, USB-A, USB-C, HD Radio, and 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability. The display can be configured as a single-panel or split-screen layout.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada specs the TRX at 22.4 L/100 km in the city, 16.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 19.8 combined.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX, Limited, and the other trims in the range.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the 2021 RAM 1500 lineup, but you should expect the fewest luxury and convenience features.
• Limited: This is the best fit if you want the 12-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 4C, navigation, and the more upscale tech presentation without going all the way to the TRX’s extreme performance focus.
• TRX: This is the standout choice if you want the most powerful and most distinctive version of the truck, with the supercharged 6.2-litre V8, off-road hardware, and the most aggressive styling and capability.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Advanced Safety Group is extra, so you’ll want to verify whether the truck you’re considering has it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,023 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,000 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $33,181 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,047 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at today’s softer pricing. If you purchase near the current average and keep the truck in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with someone who bought when prices were higher.

The TRX and other well-equipped versions may hold interest better among shoppers who want a distinctive full-size pickup with strong performance credentials. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is built to withstand on- and off-road unpredictability, but crash-test safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA are not yet available.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ram says the truck offers more than 100 safety and security features, including forward collision warning. The standard rear backup camera includes dynamic guidelines, while the Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking.

Other available safety features include a digital rear-view mirror, brake-activated centre high-mount stop lamp, adaptive headlights, hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear park assistance with automatic braking. One important caveat is that many of the snazzier safety features cost extra.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the TRX, giving the lineup a high-performance off-road flagship.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,396 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,181 CAD average.
• It brings the EcoDiesel back across the range.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,841 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $33,181 CAD average.
• It blends comfort, utility, and technology with a more polished feel.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this truck and can live with the pricing, the 2021 is the year to target. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the smarter value play; if you want a more polished follow-up and can stretch your budget, the 2022 is the upgrade path.
