Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and our experts score it 7.8/10. The expert rating also includes a 9/10 safety score. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, roomy interior, attractive design, and strong value for the price. That lines up well with the Rogue’s role as a practical compact SUV for everyday use, especially if you want a well-equipped vehicle without stretching to the top of the segment. The market also shows 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which supports its value appeal.

Nissan’s warranty coverage is roughly on par for the segment, which helps reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is less about basic dependability and more about whether you’re satisfied with the available power and front storage space.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup gets standard LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, and a functional exterior design, while higher trims add more premium touches such as two-tone paint, leatherette or semi-aniline quilted Nappa leather, and more upscale interior presentation. The SV AWD with the Premium Package adds heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every Rogue uses the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. There is no alternate powertrain, so you should buy based on how well this single setup fits your needs.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV, and Navi-link on the Platinum adds more advanced steering and speed support through curves.
• Infotainment: Most models get an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, and SiriusXM. The SV adds an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, more USB ports, and NissanConnect services, while the Platinum upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a 10.8-inch head-up display, and a Bose 10-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Rogue uses 8.9 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.1 L/100 km combined in front-wheel-drive form, or 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway, and 8.3 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the redesigned Rogue’s core strengths, including standard Safety Shield 360 and the 8-inch touchscreen with wired smartphone integration. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the new-generation Rogue.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds ProPILOT Assist, more connectivity features, extra USB ports, and available upgrades like the Premium Package. If you want the best balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to target.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with the larger 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, head-up display, and the Bose audio system. Choose it if you want the most premium Rogue experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the line, while ProPILOT Assist arrives on the SV and above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 544 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.61% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,062 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $21,062 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,958 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Rogue has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to sell later. If the market stays steady, future sellers may benefit from the model’s broad appeal, especially because it has strong owner satisfaction and a reputation for practicality. The downside is that resale gains are likely to be more modest if supply remains healthy and prices stay soft.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it a four-star safety rating overall.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is standard on the SV and adds hands-on highway driving support, while the Platinum’s Navi-link system expands that capability further.

One caveat is that earlier examples scored only three stars in frontal crash testing before later versions were upgraded to four stars.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a new platform, new engine, and broader improvements across the range.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,439 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,062 CAD average.
• It offers familiar comfort and useful cargo space.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,480 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,062 CAD average.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine and stronger efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, redesign benefits, and strong owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can still make sense, but you give up the newer platform and broader improvements.
