What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Kicks?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-back version, while the SV and SR add more comfort and convenience equipment. The SR Premium brings the most upscale look and feel, including LED lighting, black heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, a rear roof-mounted spoiler, dark chrome grille accents, Prima-Tex-appointed seating, and the class-exclusive Bose Personal Plus sound system.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 Kicks uses a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque, paired with Nissan’s Xtronic CVT and front-wheel drive. There is no all-wheel drive option, and the model is tuned more for easygoing commuting than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Every model gets Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. SV and SR trims add adaptive cruise control, a driver alertness monitor, and rear door alert.
• Infotainment: The base S has a 7-inch infotainment touch screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, three USB ports, keyless entry, push-button start, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. SV adds Nissan Intelligent Key, automatic climate control, satellite radio, remote engine start, and a USB-C port, while SR Premium adds the surround-view monitor and Bose Personal Plus audio.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Kicks at 7.7 L/100 km in the city, 6.6 on the highway, and 7.2 combined.

Which 2021 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Kicks is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SR, and SR Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-first choice if you want the lowest entry point and are happy with the essentials. You still get the 7-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Nissan Safety Shield 360, but you give up the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete daily-driver experience with automatic climate control, satellite radio, remote engine start, Nissan Intelligent Key, and a USB-C port. It also gains rear disc brakes and more convenience without jumping all the way to the top model.
• SR: Choose this if you want a more polished look and a few meaningful upgrades, including 17-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, and the sportier exterior treatment. It builds on the SV while staying below the fully loaded version.
• SR Premium: This is the trim to buy if you want the most equipment and the most upscale presentation. It adds LED headlights, LED fog lights, black heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, Prima-Tex seating, the Bose Personal Plus sound system, and the surround-view monitor.

Every Kicks comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, while SV and SR trims add adaptive cruise control, a driver alertness monitor, and rear door alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Kicks?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 274 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,586 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Kicks's resale value?

The current average of $17,702 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,143 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside exposure than someone who paid closer to the earlier average.

The Kicks’ value-oriented positioning should help it remain attractive to shoppers looking for an affordable small crossover. Strong equipment for the money can support demand, especially if you keep the vehicle in clean condition and price it competitively later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Kicks safe?

The 2021 Kicks earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Kicks comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. It also includes cruise control and 10 airbags, while SV and SR trims add adaptive cruise control, a driver alertness monitor, and rear door alert.

The main caveat is that the 2021 model has not been crash-tested by IIHS, so you are relying on the refreshed safety equipment and the NHTSA result rather than a full new IIHS score for this model year.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s been only three years since the Nissan Kicks made its way to North America, but it’s been available across the globe for longer, and the refreshed 2021 model continues to check the same value-focused boxes with more features.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed version with more equipment and a still-reasonable used price, the 2021 Kicks is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby older year may be worth a look, but the 2021 gives you the better mix of features, safety equipment, and market availability.
