Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its technology, comfort, and stylish design, and many also like the customisable features and high-quality sound system. Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the GLE’s comfort, technology, and generally trouble-free appeal. The expert evaluation also highlights the base GLE 350’s ordinary coil-sprung setup as the most sensible choice for reliability, since it avoids more complex hardware. If you want a used luxury SUV you can count on, the simpler versions should generally carry less long-term ownership risk than the more complicated high-output models.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLE lineup spans eight variants, and the cabin quality, layout, colours, and textures are a major strength. Base versions are well equipped, but you may need to move up the range to feel truly rich, and some safety and convenience features are not standard on every model.
• Powertrain: In Canada, every GLE comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The base GLE 350 uses a 255 hp turbo engine, the GLE 450 adds a turbo 3.0-litre inline-6 with 362 hp, and AMG models bring much more power and more complex hardware.
• Safety package: The GLE includes a broad suite of driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, and semi-automated control. Some features are standard or optional depending on trim, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side is optional on higher trims.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch touchscreen with Interior Assistant, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a natural voice assistant, and a system that can be controlled by touchpad or thumbpad. The interface is highly featured and can be overwhelming, but it is also very capable.
• Fuel efficiency: The GLE is not especially efficient. The GLE 450 4MATIC uses 11.4 L/100 km in city driving, 9.2 on the highway, and 10.4 combined, while the GLE 350 4MATIC uses 12.4/9.0/10.8. The AMG GLE 53 Coupe averaged 14.7 L/100 km in testing.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 4 trim levels: GLE 350 4MATIC SUV, GLE 450 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+, and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+.

Here's the short version:

• GLE 350 4MATIC SUV: This is the most sensible starting point if you want the GLE’s comfort, technology, and standard all-wheel drive without paying for the more complex powertrains. It is the best-value choice for most used buyers.
• GLE 450 4MATIC: This is the sweet spot if you want stronger performance from the turbo 3.0-litre inline-6 and still want a more balanced ownership proposition than the AMG models.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+: Choose this if you want the sharper AMG character, the electric supercharger setup, and the more performance-focused hardware.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+: This is the top-performance choice, with the most powerful engine and the most aggressive hardware in the range.

Safety equipment varies by trim, and some advanced features are standard or optional depending on the model you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 224 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $52,727 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?

The current average of $54,469 CAD sits slightly below last year's $61,968 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right entry point. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The GLE’s broad appeal, strong technology, and luxury positioning should help support demand, but expensive options and higher running costs can still weigh on resale.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns the best Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA with four stars for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety and driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, and semi-automated control that can stop the vehicle if the driver does not respond. Pre-Safe Sound is standard, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side is optional on higher trims. Some of these features vary by trim, so it is worth checking the exact equipment list on any used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds brand-new GLE Coupe models, giving you a more distinctive body style.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $59,956 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $54,469 CAD average.
• It focuses on a low-roofed SUV coupe shape that works especially well in AMG form.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition, the 2021 is the better buy because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you are willing to pay more for a more style-led coupe profile, the 2022 is the better alternative.
