What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5 Turbo comes in both body styles, with the Premium Package and the 100th Anniversary special edition adding equipment and a more upscale feel. The base specification is lighter on convenience features, while the GT grade brings black or white leather interior finishes in the sedan and more premium cabin touches.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ AWD. It delivers strong performance, and the car is tuned for smooth, predictable response rather than frantic behaviour.
• Safety package: Mazda’s ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and the GT trim adds an Adaptive Front Lighting System. With the Premium Package, you also get a high-definition surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. It is not touch-sensitive, and the Premium Package adds an Active Driving Display.
• Fuel efficiency: During testing, the Mazda3 Turbo averaged 11.5 L/100 km, while Natural Resources Canada estimates 8.8 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo with Premium Package, 2.5 Turbo GT, and 2.5 Turbo 100th Anniversary.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 Turbo: This is the entry point to the turbocharged lineup, and it gives you the core performance upgrade plus AWD. It makes sense if you want the engine and drivetrain without stretching for extra luxury features.
• 2.5 Turbo with Premium Package: This is the best-value choice if you want the most complete mix of equipment and comfort. It adds the Active Driving Display and key safety upgrades, making it the trim most buyers should start with.
• 2.5 Turbo GT: Choose this if you want the more upscale cabin treatment and the GT-specific lighting upgrade. It suits you if interior presentation matters as much as performance.
• 2.5 Turbo 100th Anniversary: This is the special-edition pick for shoppers who want the most distinctive appearance and a more exclusive feel. It is best if you value rarity and presentation over pure value.

The Premium Package is the trim to focus on if you want the strongest balance of features and price, while the GT-specific safety and lighting upgrades are worth noting if you are comparing higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 162 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,915 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $21,419 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,896 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy at the current average, there is less room for immediate appreciation, so condition and trim choice matter more for preserving value. Stronger-equipped versions and well-kept examples should hold buyer interest better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The Mazda MAZDA3 earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The GT trim adds an Adaptive Front Lighting System, while the Premium Package brings a high-definition surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. That package gives you the most complete safety setup in the lineup.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The turbocharged 2.5-litre engine makes this year especially appealing for buyers who want more performance.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,773 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,419 CAD average.
• It adds a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition, the 2021 is the better buy because pricing has eased and inventory is available. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and a small styling update, the 2022 is the secondary path to consider.
