CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Kia Sorento
Summary
With 65 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,062 CAD, 27.7% of 2021 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Kia Sorento 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Kia Sorento stands out because it was fully redesigned for the fourth generation, with styling that took a more aggressive and sporty direction and a body that grew another five centimetres in length. That extra size allowed Kia to add a third row with enough room to comfortably accommodate adults, making the Sorento a more convincing family SUV than before. It also arrived with a higher starting MSRP, reflecting the more substantial package on offer.
For Canada, the 2021 Sorento came with a 191 hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed transmission on the LX+ and LX Premium trims, while a 281 hp turbocharged upgrade was offered on the X-Line trim and above. The base LX+ included 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, and forward collision avoidance assist. LX Premium added features such as 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Higher trims could also bring adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor, and a head-up display, while a blind-spot view camera system was available as well.
There are also practical trade-offs to keep in mind. The V6 was dropped for this generation, and the Sorento Hybrid and Sorento PHEV did not arrive until the 2022 model year, so the 2021 model is limited to the powertrains and equipment available at launch. Even so, it is easy to see why owners value it: the cabin is spacious, the feature content is strong, and the overall package offers a good mix of comfort, safety, and value.

Kia Sorento Xline. This car has many features and quicker than the previous V6 with better gas mileage. If you are looking at the 2.5T then I would recommend the AWD as you can actually use the power without spinning tires all the time.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $24,709 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $24,709 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,215 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the softer current pricing means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped. Strong demand for a spacious, well-equipped family SUV can still support values, especially if your Sorento is in clean shape and has desirable features.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $28,148 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,709 CAD average.
- It adds hybrid options, including a plug-in hybrid.
The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the better value and a strong owner satisfaction record. If you are willing to spend more for newer powertrain choices, the 2022 is the better secondary path for you.
