Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Ridgeline earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, ride quality, spacious interior, smooth driving experience, and innovative truck bed and cargo space. That lines up well with the Ridgeline’s use case as a truck that prioritizes everyday livability and practical utility over traditional rough-and-ready pickup behaviour.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Honda’s standard maintenance coverage adds some ownership reassurance, and the Ridgeline’s practical, everyday-focused design should help reduce the risk of regret for used buyers who want a truck that is easier to live with over the long term.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim is the most basic version, and it is the only one with cloth seats. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment, so you should compare cabin materials and feature content carefully if you want a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: Every Ridgeline uses a 280-horsepower V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. It is smooth and refined, but it is not built for serious rock-crawling, and its off-road limits are part of the trade-off.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centring assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not offered in Canada.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging, basic HondaLink connected services, USB charging ports, and wireless smartphone charging. Higher trims add SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, voice recognition, traffic information, and a premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2021 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core Ridgeline formula: V6 power, standard all-wheel drive, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the practical truck packaging that makes the model appealing. It is the best-value choice if you want the Ridgeline’s strengths without paying for extras you may not need.
• EX-L: This trim is the logical step up if you want a more comfortable and better-equipped cabin. It should suit you if you value a more premium daily-driver feel and want more convenience features than the Sport provides.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the richer tech and comfort content, including navigation and the upgraded audio and connectivity features. It is the better fit if you spend lots of time in the truck and want a more polished experience.
• Black Edition: This is the range-topper for shoppers who want the most distinctive appearance and the fullest feature set. It makes sense if you want the most upscale version of the Ridgeline and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but you should still note the absence of blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning in Canada.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 72 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.28% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,590 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $37,515 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,900 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market if supply stays healthy. A model that has already moved down from its prior-year average can be harder to position at a premium unless it is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean.

The Ridgeline’s practical strengths and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, but resale will still depend on condition, mileage, and trim. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The Honda Ridgeline earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and it was noted that the redesigned front end lowered its score in the small overlap front: passenger side crash test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centring assistance. The truck also includes a multi-angle reversing camera and automatic high-beam headlights.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control can react too aggressively in some traffic situations, so you should test the system carefully on your own drive.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 update gives the Ridgeline a more truck-like appearance.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,186 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $37,515 CAD average.
• It carries over essentially unchanged after the 2021 facelift.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a meaningful facelift. If you are shopping mainly on condition and equipment rather than price, the 2022 is still worth a look, but it does not bring enough change to justify a big premium for most buyers.

How does the 2021 Honda Ridgeline compare to the 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

Our experts score the 2021 Honda Ridgeline 7/10 and the 2021 Toyota Tacoma 6.5/10. The Ridgeline is the better choice if you want a smoother, more refined daily driver with stronger comfort and utility. The Tacoma is cheaper to start, but the Ridgeline’s higher average used price reflects its broader appeal as an easier truck to live with every day.
