CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda Ridgeline
overall

Summary
With 79 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,820 CAD, 36.7% of 2021 Honda Ridgeline listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda Ridgeline 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
Why it stands out
With the 2021 Honda Ridgeline, Honda adds a hefty dose of truck personality to an already appealing midsize crew cab pickup. The styling, packaging, and functionality changes help it stand out in a crowded segment, and the updated look gives it a more traditional truck presence. That makes it especially attractive to buyers who want a pickup that feels more conventional without giving up the Ridgeline’s practical appeal.
Owners tend to praise the 2021 Honda Ridgeline for its comfort, ride quality, and smooth driving experience, along with its spacious interior. Its innovative truck bed and cargo space are also recurring strengths, which should appeal to shoppers who value everyday usefulness as much as capability. On the other hand, some owners have pointed to the absence of certain safety features, including blind spot indicators and lane change warnings, as an area where it could be improved.

This is a great design for someone who needs a truck but not a 1/2 ton pickup. I am very happy with the way it drives and the technology that is included. I haven’t towed anything with it yet but I am confident that it will do what I need. I bought the RTL model because it had leather interior and a Sirius radio. II guess the most direct comparison will be the Hyundai Santa Cruz or the Ford Marverick. However it is more capable in many woes over those two models.

2021 Ridgeline RTL-E - Loaded with great features and very comfortable to drive. Great visibility. Lots of cargo space. Drives like a big car. Great for winter driving with AWD. This is my second Ridgeline. Drove a 2013 for 10 years. Loved it. Loving this one too. Perfect for someone who wants a truck but doesnt need the size of something like a F250.

I decided on the Honda Ridgeline. I have to say, in terms of refinement, sophistication, features, driveability, interior space, etc., Honda is light years ahead of the competition [Tacoma, Ranger and Canyon/Colorado]. The Tacoma and Ranger were pretty similar, but I think Ford upped their game lately – more so than Toyota. The GMC/Chev trucks are bottom of the barrel, not worth considering. I would concede that – if someone is looking first and foremost for serious off-roading features/capability, trucks along the lines of the Tacoma will top of their list. However, for me -- valuing year round city/highway driveability over off-roading adventures -- the Ridgeline makes a lot of sense.

How much does the 2021 Honda Ridgeline cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,794 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $36,624 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $40,567 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $40,415 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.48% |
Prices have softened 6.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 81 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Honda Ridgeline earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its comfort, ride quality, smooth driving experience, and spacious interior. They also highlight the innovative truck bed and cargo space, which fit well with the Ridgeline’s practical, everyday-use focus. For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want pickup utility without giving up a comfortable cabin and easygoing road manners.
The market also shows 37.0% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, ride quality, and features that hold up well over time. The expert drive notes also support that impression by describing the Ridgeline as smooth and refined, with a powertrain and chassis setup that feel well sorted for daily use.
Honda’s maintenance coverage can also help reduce early ownership friction when it applies. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the truck’s feature set and capability match your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Sport trim is the only one with cloth seats, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment. The base setup is not stripped down, but you should check whether the features you want are included before you buy.
- Powertrain: Every Ridgeline uses a 280-horsepower V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. It is smooth and refined, but it is not a rock-crawling off-roader.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centring assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not offered in Canada.
- Infotainment: Every Ridgeline gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging, connected services, USB charging ports, and wireless smartphone charging. Higher trims add SiriusXM, HD Radio, navigation, voice recognition, traffic information, and a premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.
Which 2021 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the Ridgeline’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. You still get the V6, standard all-wheel drive, the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and Honda Sensing.
- EX-L: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of comfort and equipment without jumping to the top of the range. It should suit you if you want a more upscale daily driver and plan to keep the truck for a while.
- Touring: Choose this if you want the more premium tech and convenience upgrades, including navigation and the upgraded audio and connectivity features.
- Black Edition: This is the most distinctive choice if you want the most upscale presentation and are willing to pay for it.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not offered in Canada.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 81 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.48% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $36,624 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $37,794 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,415 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale expectations. If you own one now, you may need to price it competitively when it is time to sell, especially if similar listings remain plentiful. On the other hand, the Ridgeline’s strong owner satisfaction and practical appeal should help it stay relevant with shoppers who value comfort and utility.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline safe?
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and it was noted that the redesigned front end lowered its score in the small overlap front: passenger side crash test.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centring assistance. The Ridgeline also includes a multi-angle reversing camera and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not offered in Canada.
One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control can react too aggressively in some traffic situations, so you should stay alert even when the driver-assistance systems are active.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 update gives the Ridgeline a more truck-like look and broader appeal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $39,803 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $37,794 CAD average.
- It carries over essentially unchanged, so you are mainly paying more for the newer model year.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy. If you prefer a newer model year and are comfortable paying more for essentially the same truck, the 2022 is the secondary path.
How does the 2021 Honda Ridgeline compare to the 2021 Toyota Tacoma?
Our experts score the 2021 Honda Ridgeline 7/10 and the 2021 Toyota Tacoma 6.5/10. The Ridgeline is the better choice if you want a smoother, more comfortable daily driver with stronger on-road manners. The Tacoma is the cheaper new-truck entry point, but the Ridgeline’s used pricing, comfort, and practicality make it the more appealing all-rounder here.
| Spec | 2021 Honda Ridgeline | 2021 Toyota Tacoma |
