CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 100 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,062 CAD, 27.0% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out as Ford’s first mass-market electric car, and it is also the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name. It is notable as the first production Mustang model with more than two doors, which gives it a very different character from the nameplate’s traditional formula. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, signalling that this was meant to be a serious step into the EV market rather than a limited experiment.
What makes the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E appealing is the way it blends style and sportiness with the practicality of a small electric crossover. Ford’s emphasis on performance puts it in direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y, and buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition. The test vehicle described here was a First Edition model, identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences such as red brake calipers, and it featured the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive.
Owner feedback also points to the Mach-E’s strong appeal, with praise for its stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. Some owners have raised concerns about charging options and software issues, so while the Mach-E brings a lot of excitement and everyday usability, it is not without a few frustrations.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, along with a comfortable interior and user-friendly features. That lines up well with its role as a small electric crossover that blends sportiness with everyday practicality. For shoppers who want an EV with more personality than a plain commuter, the Mach-E’s mix of style, usability, and driving enjoyment is a strong fit.
Only 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful comparison.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, enjoyable ownership experience, with praise for the car’s user-friendly features and overall appeal. The expert drive notes also highlight that the basic adaptive cruise control system kept pace with traffic reliably, and its automated lane centring was one of the smoothest experienced in a mainstream vehicle. Ford also includes a cable that lets you plug directly into a 240-volt home outlet for Level 2 AC charging, which can make regular home charging simpler.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core durability and more about whether charging behaviour, software updates, and previous owner care have been consistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin has a minimalist look, a massive infotainment touchscreen, and decent-quality materials, but some buyers may be disappointed by the lack of a leather-upholstery option in this price range. Even the top trim levels use a synthetic material called ActiveX, and the First Edition adds unique cosmetic touches such as red brake calipers, brushed aluminium pedals, and special kickplates.
- Powertrain: The Mach-E is offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the test vehicle used the lower-level AWD setup with 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. Ford says that configuration reaches 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, while the most potent AWD GT Performance Edition uses two electric motors and makes 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses Sync 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air software update capability. The main touchscreen measures 15.5 inches, and the instrument cluster measures 10.2 inches.
- Range & charging: The 88-kWh Extended Range pack allows for 491 km of range with RWD and 435 km with AWD. DC fast charging is standard at up to 150 kW, and Ford says a 10% to 80% charge can take 45 minutes.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged over time, and review whether it has spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains and whether any charging or software concerns have been addressed.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Mach-E’s core style, EV packaging, and standard driver-assistance features. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable skipping some of the nicer convenience and tech upgrades.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the Mach-E’s strengths without jumping all the way to the performance-focused top model. It also shares the test vehicle’s general powertrain character, and it adds enough equipment to feel more complete for daily use.
- California Route 1: Choose this if you want a longer-range, more road-trip-friendly setup and the standard Active Drive Assist feature. It suits buyers who care more about efficiency and advanced driver-assist capability than outright performance.
- GT Performance Edition: This is the one to buy if you want the quickest and most powerful Mach-E, with two electric motors and the strongest performance figures in the lineup. It is the clear enthusiast choice, but it is also the most expensive.
Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, while it is part of a package on the Select trim level.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
The market looks moderate, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 100 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.18% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $27,003 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $29,150 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,422 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Mach-E has softened enough to create a more approachable used-buying window, but not so much that it looks distressed. For a future seller, that means you should expect pricing pressure if the market stays soft, especially if your vehicle is a lower-trim example without standout equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable battery and trim combinations should still hold attention better than plain-spec versions.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is also standard on higher trim levels. Ford’s Active Drive Assist system is slated to add automated acceleration, braking, and steering on designated divided highways, with a driver-facing camera to monitor distraction.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It was Ford’s first mass-market electric car and the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name, which makes it the most historically significant early Mach-E model year.
The bottom line: If you want the earliest Mach-E with the strongest “first of its kind” appeal, the 2021 is the one to target. If your priority is simply getting the best value, you should stay flexible and compare listings carefully, because the softer pricing and decent inventory make this a good year to shop selectively rather than rush into the first example you see.
