CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 95 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,013 CAD, 28.4% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out as Ford’s first mass-market electric car, and it is also the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name. It is notable as the first production Mustang model with more than two doors, which gives it a very different character from the nameplate’s traditional formula. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, signalling that this was meant to be a serious step into the EV market rather than a limited experiment.
What makes the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E appealing is the way it blends style and sportiness with the practicality of a small electric crossover. Ford’s emphasis on performance puts it in direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y, and buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition. The test vehicle described here was a First Edition model, identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences such as red brake calipers, and it featured the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive.
Owner feedback also points to the Mach-E’s strong appeal, with praise for its stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. Some owners have raised concerns about charging options and software issues, so while the Mach-E brings a lot of excitement and everyday usability, it is not without a few frustrations.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

| Year-Round High | $30,060 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,060 CAD |

Prices have softened 3.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 96 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. That lines up well with its role as a small electric crossover that blends sportiness with everyday practicality. If you want an EV that feels more distinctive than a typical commuter, this model year fits that brief well.
31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise for the car’s comfortable interior, advanced technology, and user-friendly features. The expert drive also notes that the basic adaptive cruise control system kept pace with traffic reliably, and its automated lane centring was one of the smoothest experienced in a mainstream-brand vehicle. Ford also includes a cable that lets you plug into a 240-volt home outlet for Level 2 AC charging, which can make regular charging more convenient if your setup supports it.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about making sure software behaviour, charging habits, and any prior updates have been handled properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin uses a minimalist layout with a massive infotainment touchscreen, a thin rectangular instrument display, and a rotary gear selector. Interior materials are decent, but some buyers may be disappointed by the lack of a leather-upholstery option in this price range. Even the top trims use a synthetic material called ActiveX, and First Edition models add red brake calipers, brushed aluminium pedals, and unique kickplates.
- Powertrain: The Mach-E is rear-wheel drive by default, with all-wheel drive available. The base RWD model makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the AWD setup in the test vehicle produced 346 hp and 428 lb-ft. The GT Performance Edition uses two electric motors and makes 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but only part of a package on Select.
- Infotainment: You get Sync 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air software update capability. The main touchscreen measures 15.5 inches and the instrument cluster measures 10.2 inches. A six-speaker audio system is standard, while Premium, GT, and First Edition models get a nine-speaker B&O by Bang & Olufsen system.
- Range & charging: The 68-kWh Standard Range battery pack is rated at 370 km with RWD and 340 km with AWD. The 88-kWh Extended Range pack is rated at 491 km with RWD and 435 km with AWD. DC fast charging is standard at up to 150 kW, and Ford says 10% to 80% charging takes 45 minutes.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has typically been charged, and review any remaining battery warranty coverage. A car that has spent most of its life on home charging is often easier to live with than one that has relied heavily on frequent DC fast charging.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Mach-E experience. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable adding equipment selectively.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the Select with the more desirable everyday balance of equipment and capability. It is also the trim most closely matched by the First Edition test vehicle.
- California Route 1: Choose this if you want a longer-range, more road-trip-friendly setup and the standard Active Drive Assist hardware.
- GT Performance Edition: This is the performance-focused choice, with the most powerful dual-motor setup and the quickest acceleration.
Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, but it is only part of a package on Select.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.52% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $26,995 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $29,003 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,060 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale a little more challenging if you pay too close to the top of the range today. On the other hand, the model’s strong mix of style, performance, and technology should help it stay appealing to shoppers looking for an EV with more personality than a typical crossover. If you buy well now, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but only part of a package on Select.
One caveat is that the IIHS result was affected by certain headlights and LATCH ease of use, so you should pay attention to trim and equipment differences when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 stands out as Ford’s first mass-market electric car and the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name.
The bottom line: If you want the earliest Mach-E with the strongest novelty and a solid mix of owner satisfaction, the 2021 is a sensible choice. If your priority is simply getting the best price, you can also keep shopping the market closely and focus on the lowest-priced listings, especially those near the bottom of the year-round range.
