Is the 2021 Ford F-150 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford F-150 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, modern technology, and excellent ride comfort. What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL and next-step XLT are described as more spartan, while higher trims such as King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited are much more luxurious. If you want a more upscale cabin, the higher trims are the ones to target.
• Powertrain: You get a wide range of engines, from the 3.3-litre V6 to EcoBoost V6s, a 5.0-litre V8, a Power Stroke diesel, and the PowerBoost hybrid. The hybrid is the most powerful option, but it is not the best choice if maximum towing is your priority.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, though some require extra cost on certain trims.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 brings Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, while a 12-inch screen is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The PowerBoost hybrid is rated at 9.3 L/100 km combined with rear-wheel drive and 9.8 L/100 km combined with four-wheel drive. The hybrid’s real-world fuel use can still be disappointing compared with its promise.

Which 2021 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable path into the F-150, but it is also the most basic. It makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you too far up the price ladder. It should suit you if you want a balanced mix of features and value.
• Lariat: This trim is the step up if you want a more polished feel and more comfort-focused equipment. It is a good fit if you spend a lot of time in the truck and want a nicer cabin.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury, with leather upholstery and wood trim that make it feel much more upscale. It suits you if you want a premium truck experience.
• Platinum: This is another high-end choice for shoppers who want a more luxurious F-150 with a stronger emphasis on comfort and presentation.
• Limited: This is the top-end option if you want the most upscale version of the lineup and are willing to pay for it.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 safety suite is standard, while some additional driver-assistance features require extra cost on certain trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,581 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.52% compared with last year.

What is the 2021 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $36,348 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,083 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy now, you may be entering at a lower point than owners who purchased a year ago. That can help limit depreciation pressure if prices stabilise.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2021 Ford F-150 earns a good rating from IIHS for roof strength.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard Ford Co-Pilot360 equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, though some features require extra cost on certain trims.

A key caveat is that full crash-test ratings were not yet available at launch, so the safety picture is not as complete as it is for some longer-running rivals.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a redesigned cabin, Sync 4 infotainment, and an available PowerBoost hybrid powertrain.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,614 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $36,348 CAD average.
• It focuses on broad capability and a practical, comfortable cabin.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the newer tech, broader powertrain story, and stronger market appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value path and still delivers the core F-150 strengths.
