What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims use cloth upholstery and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims move to more premium materials and a 10.1-inch screen. The cabin becomes increasingly more premium and sophisticated as you move up.
• Powertrain: You can find a 3.6-litre V6, 5.7-litre HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, and supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8. The V6 is smooth and the higher-output engines add serious performance.
• Safety package: The standard safety equipment is limited to a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Available driver aids include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch screen with Uconnect 5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services and two simultaneous Bluetooth connections.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel efficiency may be a drawback for you, especially if you want a daily driver rather than a performance-focused SUV.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Durango’s core three-row utility and standard V6 power. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model.
• GT: This trim adds more equipment and is one of the better places to start if you want a balanced mix of value and features. It also gets the 8.4-inch touchscreen and can be paired with the rear-seat entertainment system.
• Citadel: This is the more premium choice, with a stronger focus on comfort and upscale materials. It suits you if you want a more refined family SUV.
• R/T: This is the best-value pick if you want V8 power and a more performance-oriented feel without jumping to the top of the range. It also supports the Tow N Go Package and the rear-seat entertainment system.
• SRT Hellcat: This is the extreme performance choice, with the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and the most aggressive hardware and styling. It suits you if outright performance matters most.

The safety package is limited on lower trims, so it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the vehicle you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 271 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,226 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $33,233 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,429 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may temper future resale gains. If you purchase at today’s average, your depreciation exposure is already partly reflected in the current market. For a future seller, that means value retention will depend more on condition, trim desirability, and how well the vehicle is equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango earns a Marginal rating from IIHS for a small overlap frontal impact on the driver’s side, and a five-star side crash-test rating and four-star front crash and rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment is limited to a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.

The main caveat is that the Durango falls short of many rivals on standard active safety equipment, and the IIHS small-overlap result is a notable weakness.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the SRT Hellcat variant and the available Tow N Go Package, giving you more performance and towing appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,446 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,233 CAD average.
• It blends three-row practicality with muscle car styling.

The 2021 is the better pick if you want the updated infotainment and the added performance halo of the Hellcat. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 remains a sensible alternative.
