What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Durango’s cabin becomes increasingly more premium and sophisticated as you move up the trim levels, and lower-level models use cloth upholstery while higher grades can add leather, suede, Nappa leather, or Laguna leather seats. The base setup is also more limited on active safety equipment, so you should check carefully which features are included on the specific trim you’re considering.
• Powertrain: You can find 3.6-litre V6, 5.7-litre HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, and supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 options, all paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions. In Canada, AWD is standard, and the V6 is the efficiency-minded choice while the V8s are for buyers who want more muscle.
• Safety package: The Durango comes standard with a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch screen that runs Uconnect 5. The larger system adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected services, two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, TomTom navigation, and SiriusXM with 360L.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel consumption figures are not stated in the provided data.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point and uses the V6 with the standard 8.4-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the Durango’s space and style without paying for the higher-output engines or the larger infotainment setup.
• GT: The GT keeps the V6 formula but adds access to the larger 10.1-inch touchscreen and Uconnect 5, making it the best-value choice if updated tech matters most.
• Citadel: The Citadel is the more premium V6 option, with the same core family-friendly layout but a more upscale feel and available V8 upgrade if you want more power later.
• R/T: The R/T is the sweet spot for buyers who want the 5.7-litre V8, standard SRT Performance Pages, and the available Tow N Go Package. It’s the best fit if you want a strong mix of performance and utility.
• SRT 392: Choose this if you want serious performance from the 392 HEMI V8 and the more track-focused character that comes with it.
• SRT Hellcat: This is the extreme choice, with the supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 and the most aggressive hardware and styling in the lineup.

The safety content notes that active safety features are not standard across the lineup, so check each trim carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.13% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,332 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $33,332 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,818 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make resale a little more competitive for future sellers. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry point, but you should also expect resale values to reflect the same cooling trend if the market stays soft. Well-equipped trims with stronger demand should hold up better than base examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango earns a Marginal rating from IIHS for the driver-side small overlap frontal test, and a five-star side crash-test rating and four-star front crash and rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is limited to a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning. The main caveat is that many rivals offer more active safety tech as standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the SRT Hellcat and Tow N Go Package, giving it extra performance and towing appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $29,078 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,332 CAD average.
• It blends three-row practicality with muscle car styling and multiple powertrain choices.

The bottom line: If you want the newer tech, stronger market availability, and the added appeal of the 2021 updates, this is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with an older-feeling SUV, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
