How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 12.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 740 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and strong performance, and many also like the smooth-shifting 10-speed transmission. In use, it comes across as a full-size truck that still connects with buyers who want capability and everyday comfort, even if some shoppers may want more refinement inside.

The market also shows 31.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people feel good about living with over time, especially because of its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and strong performance. The same feedback also highlights the smooth 10-speed transmission, which adds to the sense that the truck is easy to count on day to day.

From an expert perspective, the Silverado is described as fundamentally sound, and the Duramax diesel is singled out as a smooth, efficient powertrain choice. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition, especially if they want a truck they can keep for the long haul.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Silverado comes in eight different trim levels, and the cabin quality varies a lot by version. Base trucks can feel sparse and dated inside, while higher trims add more equipment and a more upscale feature set.
• Powertrain: You can find multiple engine choices, including the available Duramax turbodiesel and a 6.2-litre V8. The Duramax stands out for smooth acceleration and strong fuel efficiency, while the V8 is the better fit if you want maximum towing capability.
• Safety package: Chevrolet offers forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat are available, but stop-and-go adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance are not.
• Infotainment: The Silverado uses Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 with 7-inch and 8-inch screens. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on higher-spec versions, and the system can include navigation, enhanced voice recognition, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbodiesel returned 9.6 L/100 km in combined driving in testing, and Natural Resources Canada rates it at 10.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or technology.
• Custom: A step up from WT, this trim gives you a little more everyday usability while staying on the value side of the lineup.
• Custom Trail Boss: Choose this if you want a more rugged-looking truck with off-road flavour built into the trim.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it starts to bring in more comfort and convenience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• RST: Pick this if you want a more style-focused Silverado with a sportier appearance.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the better choice if you want the Trail Boss character with more equipment than the lower off-road-oriented trim.
• LTZ: This trim adds a more premium feel, and it is a strong choice if you want a better-equipped cabin and more available technology.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most upscale Silverado experience in this lineup.

The safety package adds useful driver-assistance features, but the truck still has notable crash-test shortcomings, so it is worth checking the equipment list carefully on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop around without rushing into the first truck you see.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 740 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,429 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $35,487 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,612 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Silverado has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the truck is kept in strong condition. A softer market today can also make it easier for you to buy at a more reasonable entry point, but it means resale gains are less likely to come from market appreciation alone.

If you plan to sell later, condition, mileage, trim, and equipment will matter a lot. Trucks with desirable powertrains and well-documented maintenance histories should hold buyer interest better than neglected examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a Marginal rating for front passenger protection in an IIHS small-overlap frontal crash test, and it earns four-star ratings in frontal-impact tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet offers forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert for every Silverado as either standard or optional equipment. The truck also offers a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic collision notification through a paid subscription to connected services, and, with crew cabs, a rear-seat reminder system. Teen Driver safety technology is standard and free.

Upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat driver’s seat. The Safety Alert Seat is part of an optional Safety Package and vibrates to get your attention.

The main caveat is the Silverado’s crash-test performance, especially the IIHS passenger-side result and the poor headlight rating, which are worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Brand loyalty and big rebates help keep this model moving, even though it still needs greater attention to the details.

The bottom line: The 2021 Silverado 1500 makes sense if you want a used full-size truck with strong owner approval, a softer price trend, and plenty of inventory to compare. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2020 model year may be worth a look, but the 2021 remains the better bet if you want this generation’s familiar strengths with a solid market position.

How does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 compare to the 2021 Ford F-150?

Our experts score the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.5/10 and the 2021 Ford F-150 7.8/10. The Ford comes out ahead overall, especially if you want a stronger all-around package with better expert scoring and broader market appeal. The Silverado still has value if you prioritise lower average pricing and a truck that owners clearly like, but it trails the F-150 in the comparison.
