How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 14.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 705 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.62/5, and the expert rating is 5.5/10. The model scores 7/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and strong performance, especially with the diesel engine options. The 10-speed transmission also gets repeated approval for its smooth shifting. In practical terms, that makes the Silverado appealing if you want a proven full-size truck with broad appeal and everyday usability.

The market also shows 28.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because of its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and strong performance. Reviewers also repeatedly mention the diesel engine options and the smooth-shifting 10-speed transmission, which supports the impression of a dependable, easy-to-live-with powertrain.

From a used-buyer perspective, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Silverado’s strengths are paired with some recurring complaints about interior quality and the sound system, so you should inspect those areas carefully before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin and feature set vary widely, and the base truck can feel sparse compared with higher trims. The interior quality also draws criticism, so you should pay close attention to materials, switchgear, and overall finish when comparing trims.
• Powertrain: You can find multiple engine choices, including diesel and V8 options, plus 6-speed, 8-speed, and 10-speed automatic transmissions. The diesel stands out for its smooth acceleration and strong fuel efficiency, while the 6.2-litre V8 is the choice if towing power matters most.
• Safety package: Chevrolet offers forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, with Teen Driver safety technology standard. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat are available, but stop-and-go adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance are not.
• Infotainment: The Silverado uses Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 with 7-inch and 8-inch screens. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on higher-spec setups. The system can also include navigation, enhanced voice recognition, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbodiesel returned 9.6 L/100 km in combined driving during testing, and Natural Resources Canada lists it at 10.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or tech. It is the trim where you are most likely to feel the feature gaps that come with the lower end of the lineup.
• Custom: This trim adds a bit more everyday appeal while staying relatively accessible, so it suits you if you want a basic Silverado with a little more polish than the WT.
• Custom Trail Boss: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented look and hardware without moving all the way up the range. It is the first trim where the truck’s more adventurous character becomes a bigger part of the package.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it balances equipment, comfort, and price more effectively than the lower trims. It is a sensible place to shop if you want a more complete Silverado without stretching into luxury territory.
• RST: This trim leans into a more style-focused presentation, so it suits you if appearance matters as much as utility.
• LT Trail Boss: If you want the stronger off-road setup and a more capable-feeling truck, this is the trim to target. It builds on the Trail Boss formula with more equipment and a more substantial presence.
• LTZ: This is the more upscale choice, and it is the trim used for the test truck. It brings a more fully featured infotainment setup, available premium audio, and the kind of equipment that makes the Silverado feel more complete.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice if you want the most premium Silverado experience in this lineup.

The safety package is broad, but some features remain optional rather than standard, so you should confirm exactly which driver-assistance items are fitted on any used example you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 705 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.85% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,491 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $35,573 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,779 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Silverado has become more approachable for used buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. For a future seller, the softer market means you may need to price carefully if you want to stand out, especially if your truck is not especially well equipped or does not have the more desirable powertrain combinations.

At the same time, the Silverado’s broad appeal and loyal following can help support resale interest, particularly for shoppers who want a proven full-size truck with strong everyday usability. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The Silverado earns a Marginal rating for front passenger protection in an IIHS small-overlap frontal crash test, and its headlights are rated Poor. It also earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet includes forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert for every Silverado as standard or optional equipment. Teen Driver safety technology is standard, and available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat. The main caveat is that stop-and-go capability is not included for adaptive cruise control, and lane-centering assistance is not available.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Brand loyalty runs rampant among truck owners, and the 2021 Silverado has retained strong sales despite needing greater attention to the details.

The bottom line: If you want a proven full-size truck with broad appeal, the 2021 Silverado 1500 still makes sense, especially now that prices have softened and there is decent inventory to choose from. If you are more price-sensitive, focus on the best-equipped examples in the lower end of the range and be selective about condition, because the truck’s strengths are real but its rough edges are too.
