Is the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu earns a 4.5/5 user rating, which supports its appeal as a roomy, value-focused midsize sedan. It stands out for its larger, more open-feeling back seat, sleek styling, and practical mix of space and comfort at a relatively affordable price point. It also adds useful everyday tech such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless smartphone connectivity, making it easy to live with as a family car or commuter. With 41.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 Malibu is described as having better reliability than earlier front-drive Malibus, which is encouraging if you want a used sedan with a more reassuring ownership profile. Its overall package also leans practical rather than complicated, which can help keep day-to-day ownership straightforward. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history will matter more than the badge itself, so a careful inspection is still important.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Malibu?

It looks like a buyer’s market for this Malibu, with pricing down from a year ago and a meaningful share of listings sitting in the deal range.

• Deal availability: 41.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.87% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,286 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?

The current average of $16,531 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,889 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Malibu has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than someone who bought earlier. If you plan to own it for a few years, the current pricing can work in your favour on the purchase side, even if resale gains are unlikely to be strong. The model’s value-focused positioning should help it remain appealing to shoppers who want space and comfort without paying premium prices.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 41.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2021 Malibu is the better pick if you want a roomy, value-oriented midsize sedan at a lower used price, especially now that the market has softened. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a similar Malibu offers a better deal, but the 2021 is a sensible primary target for shoppers who want space, comfort, and modern connectivity without stretching their budget.
