The 2021 Q5 stands out because Audi added a plug-in hybrid variant to its top-selling vehicle, giving you a premium compact SUV with an efficiency-minded twist. The available information points to a second-generation Q5 that benefits from Audi’s broader electrification push while keeping the core formula familiar. The plug-in hybrid setup adds complexity, but the model is presented as a compelling vehicle with impressive efficiency figures, fun driving character, and overall quality look and feel. Its standard battery charging flexibility and hybrid driving modes also suggest a thoughtfully engineered powertrain.

The plug-in hybrid’s added systems mean you should pay close attention to charging behaviour, battery-related operation, and service history when shopping used, since those are the areas most likely to matter over the long term.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Audi Q5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The plug-in Q5 wears S-Line trim pieces and enhancements, and it looks even better with standard 19-inch wheels or optional 20-inch wheels. The cabin is classy and modern, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a clean layout, and standard leather upholstery on seating surfaces throughout.
• Powertrain: The Q5 PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 14.1-kWh battery. It produces 362 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque, can drive on battery power only for up to 31 kilometres depending on state of charge, and uses a seven-speed S Tronic automatic transmission with full-time Quattro all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection are available. The safety equipment also includes six airbags, low-speed collision assist, a rearview camera, and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
• Infotainment: You get Audi’s MMI 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus 12.3-inch HD instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and a Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system with 19 speakers and a 16-channel/755-watt amplifier.
• Fuel efficiency: The Q5 PHEV is rated at 4.7 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined in hybrid operation, and 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined in gasoline-only mode.

Which 2021 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Audi Q5 is offered in 2 trim levels: Progressiv and Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Progressiv: This is the trim to focus on if you want the better-value entry point. It gives you the plug-in hybrid Q5 experience without stepping up to the pricier trim, while still delivering the core appeal of the model: strong efficiency, a premium cabin, and the electrified powertrain that defines this year.
• Technik: Choose this if you want the more fully equipped version and are willing to pay more for it. It suits you best if you want the most upscale expression of the Q5 PHEV and expect to keep the vehicle long enough to make the added equipment worthwhile.

Safety features include Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 214 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.21% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,983 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $27,983 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,243 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale a little more competitive for you as an owner. If you buy at today’s softer pricing, you may have less downside than someone who bought when values were higher. The plug-in hybrid angle also helps the Q5 stand out in a crowded luxury SUV segment, which can support interest from shoppers looking for something a bit different.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2021 Q5 PHEV hasn’t been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yet, but the 2020 Q5 (gasoline-only) received top “good” ratings in every category except headlights, where it received a “marginal” rating. Available driver-assistance features include Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection to ensure you’re actively driving while using these additional systems.

Should I buy a 2021 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Audi added a plug-in hybrid variant to its top-selling vehicle, giving this year a distinctive electrified update.

The bottom line: If you want the Q5 with the plug-in hybrid twist and you value the softer pricing, the 2021 is the year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best deal on the trim and equipment you want.
