CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Acura RDX
overall

Summary
With 159 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,015 CAD, 28.3% of 2021 Acura RDX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Acura RDX 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Acura RDX stands out as a compact luxury crossover SUV that blends size, utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value into an appealing overall package. It also reflects Acura’s broader design direction, with the brand’s latest exterior styling and interior design philosophies, plus the completely rethought True Touch Interface infotainment system. For buyers, that combination gives the RDX a modern feel without losing the practical appeal that makes a compact luxury SUV easy to live with.
What makes the 2021 model especially attractive is the way it balances everyday comfort with a more engaging personality. Acura’s move back toward the performance ethos that guided the brand during its early years gives the RDX a clearer identity than many rivals in the segment. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for its value, comfort, fun driving experience, spacious interior, and stylish design.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. Some owners have been disappointed by fuel economy and the audio system’s performance, particularly the way noise-cancelling technology affects sound quality. A few also mention minor handling issues. Even so, the 2021 Acura RDX remains well regarded overall, and its mix of practicality, technology, and premium character helps explain why it sells well in Canada relative to its segment.

Confident, quick, and clean — the right move I bought a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec after a long stretch of research, quotes, and test drives. Came from a 2015 Mazda6—solid, efficient—but I was ready for something with more presence and power. The RDX gave me that without stepping into overpriced territory. The turbo delivers. Paired with the 10-speed, it moves when I need it, cruises when I don’t. Sport mode plus paddles gives just enough edge without trying too hard. The ride feels tight and grounded, and the A-Spec trim looks clean and confident—no chrome, no fluff. Inside, it’s a clear step up. Ultrasuede, ambient lighting, panoramic roof—it feels elevated, not loud. The ELS Studio sound system is better than I expected, no exaggeration. Fuel economy is lower than my old Mazda. I’m averaging 23–24 mpg mixed, which is fair for an AWD turbo, but it’s a drop. I expected it, but it’s worth noting. The button shifter is fine, but the tray underneath it is a catch-and-forget zone. I’ve left my phone in there more than once because of how tucked away it is. Not a flaw, just an adjustment. Same with the seat moving back when I shut the car off. Lighting fades, dash does a little goodbye animation. I’ve never had a car do all that before. It’s subtle, but now I notice. No issues with the infotainment or CarPlay. I plug in, it works. I’m not paying extra for AcuraLink remote start when the fob does the job just fine. Overall, this RDX feels like a clean step forward. It’s fast when I want it, quiet when I need it, and doesn’t feel like it’s trying to impress anyone. It just handles its business. I’d buy it again.

This car gets high marks for interior design, efficient use of space and comfort. On the other hand fuel economy is pretty poor considering vehicle size and throttle response. What is really disappointing is the impact of the noise canceling technology on the ability of the paying customer to control the sound of the audio system. If you want more bass tones you are out of luck. The more you turn the bass up the more the system cancels it out and the worse it sounds. Acura should just build a quiet car to begin with and not rely on electronic mumbo jumbo.

We decided between Lexus and Acura. Though Lexus scores just above in reliability and ease of tech features we chose the Acura RDX. The Lexus RX was too big and the NX too small for our needs and the Acura RDX was just the right in between size of those two cars. It has very good trunk space with even more storage underneath. There are levers in the trunk to let down the seats (a feature missing on the Lexus, if you are not tall you have to go to the backseat to let them down.) The seats also lay flat as opposed to quite an angle on the Lexus. The passenger seat on the Acura has all the same power comfort adjustments as the driver seat, we couldn’t find one Lexus with that, not even on the luxury trim. Acura also makes is easy to know what is in the car because all their trim levels have a sameset of features so looking for a used car was much easier than Lexus because though Lexus has trim levels customers can add on individual features that don’t come on the trim so you never know if what you are looking for is on the car . Even at the luxury level we could not find an NX with 360 view or Heads-up. I am sure they are out there just pretty hard to find. On the Acura we knew the Advanced package always had those features so it made looking easier. I also like that Acura has left the dead space underneath the console open for a bit more storage space, you can fit a small purse there. Dead space on the Lexus. So for those reasons we chose the Acura over the Lexus. However they are both very nice cars and I will say all the Lexus Dealerships we went to were superior in their customer service! We just liked the Acura car better.

- Trim level: The base trim includes the core luxury and safety equipment, but you need to move up to the Tech trim for blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. The A-Spec adds sportier styling and interior details, while the Elite and Platinum Elite bring additional premium touches.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and SH-AWD. The setup is praised for its broad torque curve, predictable handling, and responsive character.
- Safety package: Acura’s suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim.
- Infotainment: The True Touchpad Interface uses a touch-sensing pad rather than a touchscreen, and it includes satellite radio, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi tethering. It can take time to get used to, so make sure you are comfortable with it before you buy.
- Fuel efficiency: Some owners are disappointed by fuel economy, so it is worth factoring that into your ownership expectations.
Which 2021 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2021 Acura RDX is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Tech, A-Spec, Elite, Platinum Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point, but you should check carefully whether the missing blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are acceptable for you.
- Tech: This is the best-value choice if you want the most important safety upgrade, since it adds blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
- A-Spec: Choose this if you want the sportiest look and a more distinctive cabin, especially if style matters as much as equipment.
- Elite: This trim leans more premium and gives you a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top.
- Platinum Elite: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for the extra luxury content.
The safety-package upgrade starts at the Tech trim, so that is the one most shoppers should target first.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 168 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $32,876 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $33,012 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,815 CAD.
That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. A lower current average can help keep the RDX attractive to used shoppers, especially if it remains well equipped and in good condition.
If demand stays steady, the model’s combination of premium branding, strong value, and broad appeal should help support resale performance. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX safe?
The 2021 Acura RDX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and five-star overall ratings from NHTSA. It earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Acura equips every RDX with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim, so you need the Tech trim at a minimum for those features.
Should I buy a 2021 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines a modern design direction with strong value, comfort, and a more engaging drive.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,725 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,012 CAD average.
- It offers strong value with plenty of space, comfort, and safety tech.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,604 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $33,012 CAD average.
- It adds fresh styling, a quieter cabin, and more equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and overall appeal, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
