That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s lower average, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. Strong demand for well-liked trims and clean examples should help support values, especially if the vehicle remains appealing to shoppers looking for a spacious, stylish crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 22.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,731 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,563 CAD average.
• It adds MIB3 infotainment plus Travel Assist and Emergency Assist.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and there are still decent deal opportunities. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with added infotainment and driver-assist features, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
