Used 2020 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearCoquitlam, BC

How much does the 2020 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 8.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 139 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and they also highlight its comfort, safety features, and off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: it is not especially strong on value for money, and its fuel economy and interior materials draw criticism. That makes it a better fit if you want a purpose-built SUV for rough terrain, snowy roads, or other demanding conditions than if you want a soft, polished daily driver.

The market also shows 38.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to ruggedness, reliability, and trouble-free durability, with many shoppers valuing how well it holds up over time. The expert review also describes the engine’s longevity as a testament to its reliability, reinforcing the idea that this SUV is built for long-term use. Toyota Safety Sense P and the 4Runner’s durable, body-on-frame character further support its reputation as a vehicle you can count on.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about accepting higher running costs and older-school refinement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is based on the SR5 trim with five packages available instead of trim levels: TRD Off-Road, Venture, TRD Pro, Limited and the Nightshade special edition. Lower trims come standard with cloth, while the Limited package adds leather upholstery and a more comfort-focused feel.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 4-litre V6 with a five-speed automatic transmission and 270 horsepower. The engine is described as durable and built for plowing ahead, but it is not smooth or efficient.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. Eight airbags are standard, but the reactive lane-departure alert system is less reassuring than a more active lane-keeping setup.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Bluetooth is included, and packages can add a JBL stereo and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 5 trim levels: SR5, TRD Off-Road, Venture, TRD Pro, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the starting point, and it gives you the core 4Runner formula without the extra comfort or appearance upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point into the lineup and plan to keep things simple.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better choice if you want the 4Runner’s rugged character with more off-road focus than the base setup. It suits buyers who care more about capability than luxury touches.
• Venture: This package adds a stealthier look, 17-inch TRD wheels, roof rack crossbars, and side steps. It is a good fit if you want a more adventure-ready appearance and useful trail-oriented hardware.
• TRD Pro: This is the most off-road-focused version in the lineup, with the strongest visual and capability emphasis. Choose it if you want the most serious trail-ready 4Runner.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice if you want the most comfort-oriented 4Runner, with leather upholstery and a more upscale presentation. It is the right pick if you want the rugged platform but spend more time on pavement than on trails.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and the 4Runner also comes with eight airbags.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 139 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.46% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $42,500 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $42,927 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,893 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for ruggedness, reliability, and value retention helps support demand. If you own one in good condition, that loyal buyer base can help cushion depreciation compared with less distinctive SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a Good IIHS result in most crash tests, but a Marginal result in the small overlap front: driver-side test, and it earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with three-star ratings in the rollover test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. The 4Runner also comes with eight standard airbags. One caveat is that the lane-departure alert system is reactive rather than a more active lane-keeping assist setup, and the Marginal IIHS result is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds Toyota Safety Sense P and an updated 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $47,221 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $42,927 CAD average.
• It adds a stronger emphasis on reliability, resale value, and go-anywhere utility.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter path because prices have eased and the model already brings the key capability and safety features. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who want the same rugged formula with a slightly more polished ownership pitch.
