CarGurus Analysis: 2020 RAM 3500
Summary
With 36 currently listed for sale and an average price of $61,965 CAD, 36.1% of 2020 RAM 3500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 RAM 3500 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with a more upscale, daily-driver feel. By this generation, the Ram 3500 had moved well beyond its roots as a bare-bones work truck, and the focus had shifted toward luxury and technology. It also brought a stronger frame, new suspension, and a new transmission for the Hemi models, while the available high-output 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel inline-six delivered 1,000 pound-feet of torque, a first in the heavy-duty segment.
Capability is the main reason to consider it. Properly equipped, the 2020 RAM 3500 can tow more than 15,875 kilograms and carry nearly 3,600 kilograms of payload. It also offers a wide range of configurations, including regular, crew, mega, and chassis-cab body styles, long and short bed availability, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and optional dual rear wheels. Inside, it borrows heavily from the Ram 1500 with upgraded materials and available luxury amenities, plus features such as a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a 12-inch vertical infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 750-watt Harman Kardon 17-speaker audio system.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the 2020 RAM 3500 combines class-leading work-truck strength with the comfort and technology expected from a modern full-size pickup. The trade-offs are its gargantuan proportions, a noisy diesel engine, and limited safety technology. Owners also praise its power, towing ability, and comfortable interior, though some have reported concerns about the CP4 pump and DPF filter.

The interior design is superior to other alternatives and comfort is amazing. The large screen display is a bonus. The exterior is attractive and functional with the tool boxes. I cannot say more about the Cummins Diesel engine that it is a true work horse with power to spare. At this time there are no real low value options to purchase. The features and benefits of this vehicle matched all my expectations. I did review many trucks and compared many alternate trucks. This is my forth Ram truck.

When compared to the New FORD and GMC models, Ram is by far the best truck for the money. I have always been a FORD fan but the new Cummins HO motor with the Aisin transmission is hard to beat. The quality of the interior is awesome, and they just run without all the issues the other manufacturers are having. FORD has not been able to deliver for 2 years now (continue to blame chip shortage) and they are horrible at communication. GMC AT4 was my second choice before I found this RAM 3500. THe Mega cab is by far, the king of interiors.

How much does the 2020 RAM 3500 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $57,286 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $56,314 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $61,094 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $58,220 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.60% |
Prices have softened 1.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 147 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 RAM 3500 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 RAM 3500 earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its power and towing capacity, along with the comfort of the interior and the advanced features like the large display. That makes it a strong fit if you want a heavy-duty truck that can handle demanding work while still feeling more refined for everyday use. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2020 RAM 3500 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a truck that many drivers count on for serious towing and heavy-duty use. At the same time, some owners mention specific mechanical concerns, including the CP4 pump and the DPF filter, which can affect long-term ownership costs. For used buyers, that means reliability can be strong overall, but you should pay close attention to maintenance history and inspection results before committing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 3500?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.60% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $56,314 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 RAM 3500's resale value?
The current average of $57,286 CAD sits slightly below last year's $58,220 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained. Because demand is still supported by strong owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 RAM 3500 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.60% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner approval, softer pricing than a year ago, and enough inventory to compare options. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth considering, but the 2020 remains a compelling choice when you want capability and comfort in the same package.
