CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Nissan Kicks

Summary
With 324 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,792 CAD, 32.7% of 2020 Nissan Kicks listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Nissan Kicks 4.62 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Nissan Kicks stands out as a practical, value-focused subcompact SUV that was designed to appeal to drivers looking for safe, reliable, no-frills transportation. It was part of the first generation, which reached North America for the 2018 model year, and by 2020 it remained front-wheel drive only with no all-wheel drive option. That makes it a straightforward choice for buyers who want an affordable small SUV without extra complexity.
Its appeal is rooted in efficiency and equipment rather than outright performance. The first-generation Kicks used a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 125 hp and 115 lb-ft of torque, and it was paired with a continuously variable transmission. It also delivered Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption estimates of 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 6.6 on the highway, and 7.2 combined. Inside, the Kicks offered a seven-inch infotainment screen on the base S model, while the mid-level SV added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the range-topping SR brought a 360-degree camera and an upgraded Bose Personal Plus Audio System with headrest speakers.
For 2020 buyers, the Kicks’ biggest strengths were its low running costs, strong value, and useful safety equipment. Owners also tend to praise its fuel efficiency and the amount of features it offers for the price. The main trade-off is performance: the Kicks was not fast, and some drivers found it underpowered in certain situations. Still, for shoppers prioritising economy, safety, and affordability over speed, the 2020 Nissan Kicks makes a compelling case.

The Kick has all of the features that we were looking for in a small SUV. It is easy to operate and the menu is easy to access and to understand. The safety features on the car are outstanding. Very happy with the vehicles performance and ease of operation.

I think this car is great for the price! It gets awesome gas mileage and for the price they run you get a lot of great features. We actually have 2 of the SR models and are extremely happy with both of them! Highly recommended!

I think this is a good car for the value. I have the basic model, so there’s no GPS or Apple Car Play, but it does have basic safety features like blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and backup camera. The car handles well, has large cargo space and a smooth ride.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,548 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $15,548 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,535 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,531 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.09% |

There are 320 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Nissan Kicks earns a 4.62/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, and fuel efficiency, and many appreciate how much equipment you get for the price. It fits especially well if you want a practical, affordable subcompact SUV with a straightforward, no-frills personality. With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also highlights it as reliable, dependable, and a vehicle people feel good about keeping for the long term. The recurring praise for its trouble-free, value-focused ownership experience suggests you can count on it for everyday use if you prioritise simplicity and efficiency. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about whether the vehicle’s modest performance suits your needs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Kicks?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 320 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.09% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,548 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $15,548 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,531 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more affordably today. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should stay realistic unless the vehicle is exceptionally well kept or priced competitively. Because the model has broad appeal as a value-focused small SUV, demand should remain steady, but the softer pricing trend may limit upside in the near term.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,516 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $15,548 CAD average.
- It adds more features while keeping the same easygoing, value-first character.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2020 if you want the better value and are focused on keeping your purchase price down. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer version with more equipment, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who are less price-sensitive.
