Used 2020 Hyundai Elantra for Sale nearWhitby, ON

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 14.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 502 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.53/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, and smooth ride, and many also like the safety features and updated technology. It fits well if you want a practical compact sedan with a spacious cabin and strong everyday usefulness.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the expert test drive data also calls out poor fuel economy. That makes it better suited to commuting and value-focused ownership than to buyers chasing excitement.

With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable, with praise for its smooth ride, great value, and gas mileage. The same feedback also highlights that owners appreciate the safety features and updated technology, which tends to support confidence in day-to-day use.

The expert test drive data also describes it as a sensible, cost-effective compact sedan with low ownership costs and a five-year/100,000-kilometre new-car limited warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s modest performance and fuel-economy results may not match the promise of its value story.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, while the Preferred adds more convenience and safety equipment, and the Ultimate brings the most upscale feature set. The base trim’s smaller screen and missing connectivity features are the biggest gaps to watch for if you want a more modern cabin.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 147-horsepower 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a CVT, while the Essential can also be had with a six-speed manual. The Sport trim uses a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, plus a different rear suspension.
• Safety package: A driver-assistance package on the Preferred adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred already includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, Safe Exit Assist, and full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.
• Infotainment: The base Essential gets a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a USB port. The Preferred upgrades to a 7-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, while the Ultimate increases the screen to 8 inches and adds navigation, wireless charging, and a premium Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive data says the CVT improves fuel efficiency by 0.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, but real-world testing returned 8.0 L/100 km on the loop and fell short of expectations.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra, but you give up the larger screen and the more complete connectivity and safety features found higher up.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and the available driver-assistance package.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top trim, though the data here does not spell out a unique equipment advantage beyond the broader trim ladder.
• Ultimate: This is the most feature-rich comfort-and-tech choice, with the 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, premium Infinity audio, and the most advanced safety equipment.
• Sport: Pick this if you want the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine and the more engaging driving character that comes with it.

The Preferred is the best-value trim for most buyers, and the safety package is available there rather than on the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 502 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,703 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $14,703 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,227 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you own one, the current pricing trend means you should expect resale value to be shaped more by condition, mileage, and trim than by broad market momentum.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with full LED headlights, and it gets an overall four-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance package on the Preferred trim includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred also comes with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, Safe Exit Assist, and full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

One caveat from the safety testing is the NHTSA note about rear-door intrusion on the rear-seat passenger during the side-impact test.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved fuel efficiency ratings and newly packaged safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $12,356 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $14,703 CAD average.
• It remains a strong value pick, especially if you want the turbocharged Sport trim.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,742 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,703 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with broader appeal, more style, and added sophistication.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the smart middle ground if you want value, space, and added safety equipment without paying more for the redesign. If your priority is the lowest purchase price, the 2019 is the better budget play; if you want the newer design and broader feature appeal, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
