How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 14.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 522 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, and smooth ride, and many also like the safety features and updated technology. In use-case terms, it fits you best if you want a practical compact sedan that prioritises value, space, and everyday usefulness over excitement. The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and poor fuel economy. With 29.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with owners highlighting its smooth ride and value over time. The expert assessment also frames it as a low-cost, cost-effective ownership proposition, and the five-year/100,000-kilometre new-car limited warranty adds peace of mind. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may not feel especially refined or efficient compared with newer rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, with a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience and safety features than higher trims. Preferred adds a larger 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, while Ultimate adds more premium equipment such as an 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, and a premium Infinity sound system.
• Powertrain: The base setup is a 147-horsepower, 2.0-litre four-cylinder paired with a CVT, while the Essential trim can also be had with a six-speed manual. The Sport trim uses a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
• Safety package: A package on the Preferred trim adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Ultimate trim adds full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a USB port. Preferred upgrades to a 7-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, while Ultimate brings an 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, and a premium Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is described as improving fuel efficiency by 0.6 L/100 km in combined driving, but the test vehicle still averaged 8.0 L/100 km on the testing loop.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra, but it leaves you with the smallest screen and the fewest convenience features. It makes sense if your priority is basic transportation and you plan to keep the budget tight.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the strongest mix of everyday usability and safety equipment, this is the one to target.
• Luxury: This trim moves you further up the comfort ladder, but the available information here does not show a clear value advantage over Preferred. You should consider it only if you specifically want a more upscale feel.
• Ultimate: This is the most feature-rich non-Sport trim, with the 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, premium Infinity audio, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist. It suits you if you want the most complete Elantra experience.
• Sport: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the 1.6-litre turbo engine, firmer chassis tuning, and an independent rear suspension. Choose it if driving enjoyment matters more to you than maximum value.

The Preferred trim is the best balance of equipment and value, while the Ultimate trim is the most fully equipped. The Preferred package also adds key safety features, so it is the trim to watch most closely if safety equipment matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

It looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 522 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,538 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $14,538 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,970 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment than they would have a year ago. If you own one, the current market favours buyers more than sellers, so pricing it aggressively will matter. Even so, the model’s strong value reputation and owner satisfaction should help keep demand steady.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when equipped with full LED headlights, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

A driver-assistance package is available on the Preferred trim and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred trim also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate trim adds full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist. NHTSA also notes a concern about rear-door intrusion on the rear-seat passenger during the side-impact test.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved fuel efficiency ratings and newly packaged safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $12,242 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $14,538 CAD average.
• It is an updated, value-focused compact sedan with a more polished feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,539 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,538 CAD average.
• It brings a more polished, sophisticated, and sporty redesign.

The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the best mix of value, safety, and available equipment in this generation. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the cheaper route to the same basic value proposition. If you want a more modern-feeling compact sedan and can spend more, the 2021 is the stronger upgrade.
