How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 14.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 523 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.53/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, smooth ride, and safety features, while also appreciating the updated technology. It fits best if you want a practical compact sedan with strong everyday usefulness and roomy packaging rather than excitement. The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a less engaging driving experience.

Only 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, strong value, and low running costs. The expert evaluation also supports that impression by highlighting low cost of ownership and a five-year/100,000-kilometre new car limited warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-priced example may still need careful inspection if it has seen heavy commuting use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, with a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience and safety features than higher trims. The Preferred trim adds more useful equipment, while the Ultimate trim brings the most premium features.
• Powertrain: The base setup uses a 147-horsepower, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, while the Sport trim gets a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The standard Elantra is tuned for commuting rather than excitement.
• Safety package: A driver-assistance package on the Preferred trim adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred trim already includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate grade adds full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: The Essential trim gets a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a USB port. Preferred trims move to a 7-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, while the Ultimate trim upgrades to an 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, and a premium Infinity sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT improves fuel efficiency by 0.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, but real-world testing returned 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, but it is the easiest trim to outgrow because it starts with the smallest screen and the fewest convenience features. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and important safety equipment. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to target.
• Luxury: This trim sits above Preferred and is aimed at shoppers who want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top model. It is the right choice if you want more comfort and polish.
• Ultimate: This is the most feature-rich non-Sport trim, with the 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, premium audio, and the most advanced safety equipment. Choose it if you want the most complete everyday package.
• Sport: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the turbocharged engine and independent rear suspension. It suits you if driving enjoyment matters more than the standard car’s commuter focus.

The Preferred trim is the best balance of value and equipment, while the Ultimate trim is the most fully loaded. Safety equipment expands as you move up the range, with the most advanced driver-assistance features reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 523 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,672 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $14,676 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,196 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Elantra is more buyer-friendly today than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may be pressured if the market stays competitive and shoppers continue to prioritise discounted examples. On the other hand, the model’s strong value reputation and broad appeal should help keep demand steady.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with full LED headlights, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance package on the Preferred trim includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred trim also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate grade adds full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist.

A key caveat is the NHTSA note about rear-door intrusion on the rear-seat passenger during the side-impact test.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved fuel efficiency ratings and newly packaged safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $12,214 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $14,676 CAD average.
• It is an updated, value-focused compact sedan with a polished feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,586 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,676 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned, more polished, and more sophisticated compact-sedan package.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and equipment at a lower price than the redesigned 2021. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can still make sense, but the 2020 is the better all-around buy for shoppers who want the newer safety and efficiency improvements without paying for the next-generation model.
