How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 14.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 533 listings available, which suggests healthy inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, and smooth ride, and they also highlight the safety features and updated technology. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a roomy compact sedan that feels easy to live with and budget-friendly to own.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and some disappointment around fuel economy and available features. Even so, the Elantra’s value-focused positioning and practical cabin make it appealing if you prioritise everyday usefulness over excitement. Good and great deals account for 30.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as a car they can count on for great value, gas mileage, and a smooth ride, with several also pointing to its dependable safety features and updated technology. The expert evaluation also frames it as a cost-effective, low-cost-of-ownership choice with a five-year/100,000-kilometre new-car limited warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may not deliver the efficiency or feature content you expect, so condition and equipment level matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, with a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience and safety features than higher trims. The Preferred adds more everyday equipment, while the Ultimate brings the most upscale content.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder uses a CVT, while the Essential can also be had with a six-speed manual. The Sport trim uses a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder and a different transmission setup.
• Safety package: A package on the Preferred adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. The Preferred already includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, Safe Exit Assist, and full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.
• Infotainment: The Essential gets a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. The Preferred upgrades to a 7-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM. The Ultimate increases the screen to 8 inches and adds navigation, wireless charging, and a premium Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is described as improving fuel efficiency by 0.6 L/100 km in combined driving, though real-world testing did not fully match the claim.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra, but it is the most stripped-down version and misses several convenience and safety upgrades found higher up.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and key safety equipment.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top trim, especially if comfort and appearance matter to you.
• Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped non-Sport choice, with the 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless charging, premium audio, and the most advanced safety content.
• Sport: Pick this if you want the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine and a more engaging driving character than the standard car provides.

The Preferred is the best-value trim for most buyers, while the Ultimate is the one to target if you want the fullest safety and tech package.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 533 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.73% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,432 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $14,432 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,925 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if the market stays well supplied. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, the Elantra’s value-oriented reputation should help support demand. The model’s practical appeal and broad shopper interest are useful advantages when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with full LED headlights, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance package on Preferred trim adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. Preferred also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, Safe Exit Assist, and full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

One caveat is the NHTSA note about rear-door intrusion on the rear-seat passenger during the side-impact test.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved fuel efficiency ratings and newly packaged safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $12,226 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $14,432 CAD average.
• It remains an incredible value with a more current feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,484 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,432 CAD average.
• It brings a more upscale, engaging redesign with broader appeal.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the smart middle ground if you want value, safety, and a lower price than the redesigned 2021. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can still make sense; if you want the newest design and a more refined feel, the 2021 is the better long-term target.
