CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota 4Runner
Summary
With 28 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,337 CAD, 42.9% of 2019 Toyota 4Runner listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota 4Runner 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota 4Runner stands out as a rugged midsize SUV that stayed true to its body-on-frame roots at a time when many rivals had moved to car-based construction. It was still aimed at buyers who wanted real off-road ability, and Toyota paired that with standard four-wheel drive in Canada. For this generation, the 4Runner was also slightly longer, wider, and taller than before, which helped it feel more substantial without abandoning its traditional character.
What makes the 2019 model especially appealing is the way it balances old-school toughness with useful everyday equipment. All models in this generation came with power windows and door locks, a multi-information display, and 10 cup holders, while available features included satellite radio, Bluetooth, a JBL audio system, leather seats, and heated front seats. Owners also tend to praise its reliability, smooth ride, spacious interior, and off-road capability, which fits the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and comfort. At the same time, its drawbacks are familiar ones: poor on-road handling and fuel economy remain part of the package, and some shoppers may wish for more modern features.

| Year-Round Low | $40,682 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $43,613 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,613 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.63% |

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, smooth ride, spacious interior, off-road capability, and comfort. It also fits well if you want a rugged midsize SUV with standard four-wheel drive in Canada and useful everyday equipment. With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience. Reviewers also connect that reputation to the 4Runner’s long-term durability and the confidence it inspires over time. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that a strong reliability reputation can come with higher running costs if maintenance history is weak.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota 4Runner?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 120 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $40,682 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $41,159 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,613 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and service history than on broad market momentum. Because the model still has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain steady among shoppers who want a rugged SUV with proven appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $42,927 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $41,159 CAD average.
- It adds standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2019 if you want the stronger value proposition and a proven ownership reputation. If you are price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better starting point; if you want to spend more for the newer year’s added safety equipment, the 2020 is worth a look.
