CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Subaru Legacy
Summary
With 51 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,960 CAD, 23.5% of 2019 Subaru Legacy listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Subaru Legacy stands out as a midsize sedan that puts all-wheel drive at the centre of its appeal. Subaru’s standard AWD system remained across the lineup, and the model also offered a reputation for strong safety equipment and a comfortable, refined driving experience. For buyers shopping used, that combination makes it an uncommon choice among family sedans, especially if traction and all-weather confidence matter more than flash.
For this generation, the Legacy also brought a more advanced cabin and a broader spread of technology than earlier versions. The 2019 model year sat within the sixth generation, where Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite was more widely available, and the 2018 refresh had already added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the Subaru Starlink infotainment system. Standard equipment on the 2.5i included a 6.2-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming, USB and aux inputs, a backup camera, and 17-inch steel wheels, while Touring models added features such as a sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, fog lights, and a six-speaker stereo. That makes the 2019 Legacy appealing to buyers who want a practical sedan with useful everyday tech rather than a sporty personality.
There are trade-offs, though. The source describes the Legacy as having dull styling, a cheap-feeling interior, and sluggish performance, so it is not the most exciting option in its class. Even so, its standard AWD, broad safety availability, and relatively accessible used pricing help explain why it remains a sensible pick for shoppers who value security and comfort over drama.

Beautiful car! Drives beautifully, has all the bells and whistles that work intuitively, I just love it. I have owned many many cars over the years, including an Audi, and this is the nicest car Ive had.

I currently own a 2019 Subaru Legacy Limited. The car has seat memory, which is a must for me and my limitations. The car also has a CD player which most of the car companies are no longer putting on their vehicles.

| Year-Round High | $20,123 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,890 CAD |

Is the 2019 Subaru Legacy a good car?
Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2019 Subaru Legacy, and it fits buyers who want a midsize sedan with standard all-wheel drive, a comfortable and refined driving experience, and a practical focus over flash. The Legacy’s appeal is strongest if you value traction and all-weather confidence, along with useful everyday technology and a broad spread of safety equipment. Its standard AWD and family-sedan packaging make it an uncommon but sensible choice in this segment. 36% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent amount of market opportunity.
Is the 2019 Subaru Legacy reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2019 Legacy’s standard all-wheel drive, strong safety equipment, and comfort-oriented design point to a car that should suit steady, everyday use well. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about excitement and more about accepting a sedan that prioritises practicality and traction over performance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Legacy?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 36% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 50 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $16,923 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $17,811 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,890 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Legacy is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can make it harder to command a premium if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price, though, the lower entry point can help protect your ownership costs. The model’s practical appeal and standard AWD should continue to support steady demand among shoppers who want a comfortable, winter-capable sedan.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 36% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 Legacy makes the most sense if you want standard all-wheel drive, a comfort-first driving experience, and a used price that has eased from last year. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2019 is the better fit when you want the strongest mix of value, traction, and buyer satisfaction.
