What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the only trim without Honda Sensing, so you should pay close attention to the feature gap if safety tech matters to you. Higher trims add bigger wheels, and Touring brings the most equipment, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian trim uses the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and the AWD system is tuned for slippery conditions rather than off-roading.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on all trims except the base LX FWD trim. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are separate, and Touring adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging capability, and HondaLink connected services. SiriusXM is available on EX-L, while navigation and a premium audio system are standard on Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive recorded 10.2 L/100 km, compared with Natural Resources Canada’s combined expectation of 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2019 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused entry point, but it is also the trim where you give up Honda Sensing if you choose the FWD version. If safety tech is important to you, this is the trim to scrutinise carefully.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the CR-V’s core strengths intact. It also gets the larger wheels and standard Honda Sensing.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and available SiriusXM, along with a stronger equipment mix for daily comfort.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, premium audio, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Honda Sensing is standard on all trims except the base LX FWD trim, so that is the key safety-package note to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 744 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,170 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,251 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,740 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If you buy at the right number and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation. The CR-V’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the NHTSA gives it a five-star safety rating in its crash test protocol.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite on all trims except the base LX FWD trim. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are not part of the suite, but they are equipped separately. Touring also adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is that the IIHS headlight result keeps it from earning the higher Top Safety Pick Plus award.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines refined packaging, strong safety, and broad everyday appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,108 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,251 CAD average.
• It brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for the newer model’s upgrades, the 2020 is the secondary path for buyers who prioritise those improvements over price.
