Is the 2019 Honda CR-V a good car?

Generally — 4.4/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert score is 8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Drivers consistently praise the CR-V for its comfortable ride, spacious interior, good fuel economy, and available technology. The overview also points to a refined, roomy compact SUV that works well as a practical all-rounder, especially if you want everyday usability without giving up efficiency or a more engaging drive.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room for value-minded shoppers.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V reliable?

The expert summary reinforces that reputation by describing it as refined, roomy, and historically reliable, while the performance notes suggest the turbocharged setup is responsive and satisfying in daily use.

Honda also positions the CR-V as a practical ownership choice, with good value for the quality and utility it delivers. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure any example you consider has been cared for properly, especially given the reported battery concerns and cold-weather short-trip issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base model, and it can feel less complete because Honda Sensing is not standard on the base LX FWD trim. Higher trims add bigger 18-inch wheels, and Touring brings blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian trim uses the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and you can choose FWD or AWD. The engine is described as more responsive and better on fuel, but cold-weather short-trip use and battery concerns are worth keeping in mind.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is the driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are separate, and Touring adds blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging capability, and HondaLink connected services. SiriusXM is available on EX-L, while navigation and a premium audio system are standard on Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert testing loop returned 10.2 L/100 km, compared with Natural Resources Canada’s combined expectation of 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2019 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is also the trim where you give up the most, since Honda Sensing is not standard on the base LX FWD model. It makes sense only if you are focused on keeping the purchase price down.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It is the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of features and value.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the added convenience of SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, a premium audio system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Honda Sensing is standard on all trims except the base LX FWD trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should be able to shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 784 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,267 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,388 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,976 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. The CR-V’s broad appeal, strong practicality, and solid owner satisfaction should help support demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are not part of the suite, but they are equipped separately. Touring also adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is the IIHS headlight result: an Acceptable rating keeps the CR-V from earning Top Safety Pick Plus.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable, with strong safety and good fuel economy.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,471 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,388 CAD average.
• It brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and a well-rounded compact SUV at a softer price. If you are willing to spend more for the newer model year’s upgrades, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
