Honda’s turbocharged 1.5-litre engine is presented as satisfying and efficient, but the expert notes some cold-weather and short-trip concerns, along with reported battery issues. For used buyers, that means the CR-V’s long-term ownership story is strong overall, but you should still check service history carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base trim, and it can feel less equipped because Honda Sensing is not standard on the base LX FWD trim. Higher trims add bigger 18-inch wheels, and Touring brings the most upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian trim uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and you can choose FWD or AWD. The engine is described as more responsive and better on fuel than the larger engine used elsewhere.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is the driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are separate, and Touring adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging capability, and HondaLink connected services. SiriusXM is available with EX-L, and navigation plus a premium audio system are standard on Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert recorded 10.2 L/100 km on a testing loop, versus Natural Resources Canada’s expectation of 8.0 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2019 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is also the trim where you need to watch for equipment gaps, especially because Honda Sensing is not standard on the base LX FWD trim. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the CR-V, but you should compare it carefully against the next trim up.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the luxury-oriented trims. It is a smart middle ground if you want a better balance of features and price.
• EX-L: This trim suits you if you want a more upscale feel and available SiriusXM satellite radio. It is the step to consider if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, a premium audio system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Choose it if you want the most complete CR-V experience.

Honda Sensing is standard on all trims except the base LX FWD trim, so that is the key safety-package note to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 753 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.82% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,264 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,568 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,887 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If prices stay near today’s level, resale values should remain stable rather than strong. Well-equipped trims and clean service records should help protect value better than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are not part of Honda Sensing, but they are equipped separately. Touring also adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is headlight performance: an Acceptable rating keeps it from reaching the higher Top Safety Pick Plus result.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety, roomy packaging, and a refined driving feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,265 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,568 CAD average.
• It brings engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better value if you want a well-rounded CR-V at a softer price, while the 2020 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for the newer model’s upgrades. If you are price-sensitive, the 2019 is the smarter buy; if you want the latest improvements, look to the 2020.
