Best small wagon, extremely reliable and reliable, and inexpensive to maintain, great handling, solid quality, and fun to drive ! Largest cargo area, seats up or folded down, interior space better than the competition, great MPG,great list of standard equipment ! Unequivocally, the best vehicle for a single individual or family !

Reviewed a 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen on Feb 8, 2022
Have been driving a mini-van for several years (Toyota Sienna, Mazda5) and thought I wanted to downsize to a station wagon, to keep the car-like ride but still have cargo space. I liked the handling of the SportWagen and the acceleration, but the headroom made it a no-go for me. Too much of a downsize...my kids and I both felt crowded in this vehicle. On a side note, there is no arm rest for the driver.

2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,243 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,765 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,733 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,527 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.04% |
Prices have softened 13.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 95 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.
Is the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen a good car?
Generally — the 4/5 user rating points to solid owner satisfaction for this model year. That kind of feedback suggests you can shop with reasonable confidence if the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history check out. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to be selective.
Is the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that suggests reliability risk is manageable, but you should still pay close attention to service records, wear items, and any signs of deferred maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 95 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.04% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,765 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen's resale value?
The current average of $15,243 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,527 CAD.
That softer pricing means a future seller may face more competition if the market stays loose. If you buy now, the lower entry price can help offset some depreciation risk later. Well-priced examples should still attract attention, especially if they are clean, well maintained, and fairly equipped.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.04% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of current pricing and buyer confidence, the 2018 is a sensible place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, compare it carefully with nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the cheapest one.
