CarGurus Analysis: 2018 RAM 3500
Summary
With 26 currently listed for sale and an average price of $48,840 CAD, 19.2% of 2018 RAM 3500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 RAM 3500 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that had already moved well beyond its roots as a bare-bones workhorse. By this point, the Ram 3500 had gained luxurious interiors, upscale trims, and technology such as Uconnect infotainment, premium sound systems, and smart cabin materials, while still offering the rugged hardware buyers expect from a serious tow rig. It was available in regular, quad, mega, and chassis-cab configurations, with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and the generation also retained a manual transmission option. For shoppers who want a truck that feels more refined without losing its heavy-duty identity, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
What makes the 2018 model especially distinctive is how much capability it packed into a single package. The fourth-generation Ram 3500 offered engine choices including the 5.7-litre Hemi V8, the 6.4-litre Hemi V8, and the 6.7-litre Cummins turbo diesel, and maximum towing capacity in this generation ranged from 8,160 kilograms to nearly 13,600 kilograms depending on configuration. It also brought in features such as the RamBox, and the generation added safety and driver-assist technology including front automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors. That said, its gargantuan proportions can make it difficult to manage in towns and cities, and the diesel engine is noted as noisy, so it remains a truck best suited to buyers who will use its size and strength.

How much does the 2018 RAM 3500 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $47,135 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $44,701 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $50,279 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $50,282 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.26% |
Prices have softened 6.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 121 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2018 RAM 3500 a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its heavy-towing capability, comfortable ride, sturdy build, and thoughtful design, while also noting that it delivers respectable fuel economy for a truck of this size. If you want a heavy-duty pickup that feels more refined than a basic work truck, the 2018 RAM 3500 fits that use case well. With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 RAM 3500 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a truck that feels dependable, with praise for its sturdy build and the confidence it inspires when handling heavy towing duties. The lack of major complaints in the review summary also points to a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers. For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the truck’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been properly maintained for hard work.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 RAM 3500?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 121 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $44,701 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 RAM 3500's resale value?
The current average of $47,135 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,282 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can make the truck more attractive to buyers today but may also mean future sellers need to price competitively. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 RAM 3500 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
