CarGurus Analysis: 2018 RAM 1500
Summary
With 1,457 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,886 CAD, 32.7% of 2018 RAM 1500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 RAM 1500 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 RAM 1500 stands out for combining full-size truck capability with a notably comfortable ride. Ram’s coil-spring rear suspension helped give this generation a more car-like driving personality, and the truck also brought in a range of storage, infotainment, and active-safety features. By 2018, it had also gained Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which added to its everyday appeal.
It was a versatile truck, too. In 2018, buyers could still choose from a broad spread of trims and cab configurations, and the available engines included the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, plus the 5.7-litre V8 with 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque. The truck’s maximum towing figure was 4,740 kilograms. That mix of comfort, capability, and technology is a big part of why the 2018 RAM 1500 remains attractive on the used market.
There are some trade-offs, though. The base engine in early models is described as inefficient, and tow ratings tend to lag the competition. Advanced driver’s aids were also only offered on higher trims, so shoppers looking for the most equipment had to move up the range.

Is the 2018 RAM 1500 a good car?
Yes — the 2018 RAM 1500 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the comfort, features, and value for money, while also highlighting the truck’s power and towing capability. It also fits well if you want a full-size truck that feels more comfortable and car-like in everyday driving, with useful tech and storage features. With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 RAM 1500 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for comfort, value, and capability. That said, some reviewers noted occasional acceleration concerns and disliked the turn knob shifter, so you should still inspect any used example carefully. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a truck with uneven maintenance history or unresolved drivability issues.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 RAM 1500?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right truck.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,484 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,889 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 RAM 1500's resale value?
The current average of $21,901 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,461 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more price pressure if values continue to soften. If you buy at the right price now, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is a strong choice if you want a comfortable, well-liked full-size truck and you can find one priced near the lower end of the market. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
