What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower-grade trims use darker colours, smaller wheels, and plain all-black cloth interiors, while the fully loaded SL Platinum adds two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, generous chrome, and an orange-black interior. The SL also brings padded leather trim on the centre console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts.
• Powertrain: You get a single 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the S and SV, while all-wheel drive is optional on those trims and standard on the rest.
• Safety package: Nissan’s Intelligent Trace Control is standard, along with blind-spot monitoring, a rear-view camera, and standard auto-braking. The 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Rogue’s infotainment system was redesigned for 2018, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. A new customizable home screen puts audio, phone, and navigation controls at the centre.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive models use 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.7 L/100 km combined. In testing, it averaged 9.8 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL AWD, and SL Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core practicality at the lowest starting price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most affordable way into the model, but you should expect the simpler interior materials and fewer upscale touches.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because the cost-effectiveness content calls the well-equipped AWD SV the sweet spot in this market. It adds a stronger mix of equipment and value than the S, while still staying below the pricier special and luxury-leaning versions.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it suits you if appearance matters more than chasing the highest equipment level.
• SL AWD: This is the trim to choose if you want the more upscale feel and standard all-wheel drive, along with the Rogue’s more advanced available technology.
• SL Platinum: This is the fully loaded choice, and it’s the one that best showcases the Rogue’s premium touches, including the orange-black interior and the most distinctive exterior treatment.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard, and the 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some leverage if you shop patiently.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 531 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.30% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,712 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $14,834 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,915 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar right away. If you own one now, the current trend means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

At the same time, the Rogue’s broad appeal, comfort, and practicality help support steady demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Rogue earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests, but three-star ratings for the front passenger and four-star ratings for the driver in front-impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it a Top Safety Pick, with Good ratings in all five crash tests and a Superior rating for its standard auto-braking system.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue’s standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, a rear-view camera, and standard auto-braking. The 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims. The mixed front-impact NHTSA results are the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For this year, the Rogue adds available ProPilot Assist and a redesigned infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The bottom line: If you want the Rogue’s strongest mix of comfort, technology, and value, the 2018 model is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may still want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example you can find, since condition and equipment level matter a lot in this market.
